... And I freaking loved it!

I am not an Audi fan, but that thing looked class! It reminds me a bit of that new 4 door Aston Martin from profile and back. I have newer seen them before, I was even surprised to hear a7 name...

Any thoughts on these things? If they survive 10-15 years it would be savage second hand buy.

Sorry can't put in picture as I am writing it on the phone.

I've seen one and personally all current Audi's look the same to me only a wee bit bigger as the model number gets bigger. Not a fan of them either.

you've never seen one before ?

was it on your way out in the Optilaze car park ? :D

I like them too but they are huge - my Mrs ( the buying group whom they were aimed at ) would take the side off it in about 8 seconds flat.

Nah m8, I newer seem them before! And I call myself a petrolhead... Fail...

There was one parked up at work, and I was like wtf is that thing?! Audi... Really?!

Looks really cool, was diesel too, but feck knows what engine size. I presume these cost a leg and an arm brand new?

3.0Tdi in either 204ps (FWD multitronic) or 245ps (quattro S-Tronic).
€61k for the Multitronic, €67k for the quattro - before you start on the options list.

Had an A6 3.0Tdi 245ps quattro for a couple of days and it's fairly sprightly (0-100km in 6.1secs).

Are you thinking of the Q7, maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,308 ✭✭✭Ricardo G

Would have one over an ML or X5 anyday, having driven all 3 i'd say the Q7 is by far the nicest driver and more sleek looking ! Huge power and fantastic interior layout. Would have to be White for me :)

    That.... is fcuking hideous.

I have to say though, the A7 has grown on me. I'd certainly pick one over a CLS.

I've always had a bit of a ho-hum attitude when it comes to Audis that aren't S or RS, but the A7 really is a good looking and imposing machine.

I misread the title - sorry OP I misdiagnosed your condition!, that explains why you haven't seen one before !

I think the A7 is lovely btw.

However - Audi's looks normally write cheques the dynamics can't cash ( few notable exceptions obviously )

Dynamically, the new A6 isn't far off the new 5 series. I can't remember if the A7 is built off the A6 or the A8 platform, but it does signal that they are heading in the right direction.

    lol m8, its a compliment! :o

just checked a few concept pics and it looked even cooler.

so i presume properly equiped one would be 75k ish. damn i am buying a house for similar money in ireland now lol.

It really surprised me how good it looked. havent seen interrior thought.

i putted up a pic of it, just incase. its not from my work, its just something i could find on internet :p

I think pretty much every review has said that the handling is perfect, the only real complaint seems to be that it's too perfect and doesn't have a bit of uncontrollable wildness (and that was probably Clarkson).

As entertaining as he his I would take most of what Clarkson has said in the last 15 years with a VERY big pinch of salt.

I've read reviews of the A7 that say quite different - Autocar claims the A7 wasn't as entertaining as the old model CLS to drive !

this is from Top gears web site :
It's fast and grippy, but it isn't a whole lot of fun to drive. After pummelling the A7 through a series of tight bends, you stop and think, ‘My goodness, that was indeed some unusually rapid progress.' Not, ‘Hell, let's do that again.' It doesn't give much back to the driver: the steering, though sharp enough, feels artificial, the chassis erring on the side of inert caution.

Thats not exactly cashing the cheques the looks write imo

Love the A7 also, it is a stunning looking car.

Haven't driven the A7, but that's my problem with Audi's in general. Some of the older ones were poor, but the newer ones perform fine from a stopwatch point of view, but it's just that they're no fun at all is the problem. Driving with boxing gloves on would somewhat describe it!

Having had an A7 3.0TFSI and BMW 535i (new 5er) back to back, although the A7 feels more special (reflected in the price) it isnt really in the same league as the BMW from a driver involvement point of view.

Its a nice car, but a bit sterile. And the road noise is really bad, I mean really bad. Unacceptable for the class of car!

Got a chance to see one in the flesh recently, made quite an impression. It just all comes together in a rather stunning manner. Silver is probably the only colour to do it justice tough. We'll probably see our fair share of maroon or brown ones in Ireland as seems to be the trend with expensive Audis...

Similar to that the first time I saw a Mercedes CLS a few years ago. They both carry all the design language of their respective marque, but manage to pull it all off better than any other car in the range.
The VW Scirocco and Citroen DS3 would be other examples of a Marque getting their identity right.

I saw an Aston Marton Rapide in France a few weeks back and my first thought was hmm, looks a bit like an A7...:)

Apparently the platform is modular and the same for them all these days. Everything from the A4 to the A8 is based on the same common set of components, although I don't know how that is with the A8 being constructed of aluminium.

    From Wiki:
The third-generation Audi A8 (Typ 4H) was introduced in Miami on 30 November 2009 and went on sale in November 2010 as a 2011 model.[14][15]

It is based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform, but retains the Audi Space Frame aluminium construction of the previous A8, making it the lightest all-wheel drive car in the full-size luxury segment, while also giving it best-in-class fuel economy

    MLB Platform Models
    Audi A4 (B8) (Typ 8K)[2]
    Audi A5 (Typ 8T)[2]
    Audi Q5 (Typ 8R)[2][4]
    Audi A6 (C7) [2]
    Audi A7(Typ 4G) [2]
    Audi A8 (D4)(Typ 4H)

I guess its the same platform structure but simply built from Aluminium, the same way the Phaeton and Bentley FS are on the (older) A8 platform but built from steel (rather stupidly I might add).

The A7 is a great car, makes you feel special, you arrive everywhere.
I had one for a test a few weeks back and I still miss it, the one I had was 87 grand for a 3ltr Quattro with night vision and radar control, lots of other stuff too.
There's a video of it on the youtube channel

jebus dude, it's great to see people trying something new but the editing on that video is going to give someone a seizure. I had to turn it off after a minute of crazily badly done jarring jump cuts totally out of time to the bad music.

I have to say, I disagree with the comments on the video. I enjoyed the music and the camera cuts. Very good review too!

I dont agree. Its hardly bad music. I think possibly a shorter period of this editing to music would be better but I wouldnt really say the cuts are out of time, more that they need to be refined alittle.
