Gmail not updating

    Since I factory reset my HTC Desire HD some while back (and shortly thereafter received my 2.3 update on Vodafone) my GMail has not been updating correctly..

    When I access Gmail thru the phone, it will list only some recent mails that I have already received and read..It will not show up or notify new mails even though I know for definite there are new mails in my GMail account...nor is it showing old read mails left in my Inbox..

    It also shows a red "!" sign with No connection written beside it and also a Retry button beside that. Clicking that button doesnt fix it..

    However, when I go into Menu and select the Refresh option, this sometimes works if I exit the account as I will then get a New mail notification...
    Strange..Then when I go back in, if I again press the Retry button, it will load all my previous read mails in my Inbox...

    Obviously it is losing connection, but any ideas why? I have checked all the sync options (as far as I can see) and they all look like they have the correct settings I think
