my illness benefit in the meantime?

Basically, I have been ill for over 10 years & have been on certs & illness benefit. I now want to apply for Invalidity Pension but am worried that if I do, my illnss benefit will be stopped as I cannot afford to be without the payment for even 1 week.

Also, when applying for invalidity pension, are you automatically called for a medical review or do the decide on the evidence provided?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Yes you will keep your Illness Benefit whilst your Invalidity Pension claim is heard. Im surprised youve been on IB for this length, but know that it does happen. Right now persons on IB are on it for a max 2 years. Keep sending in your certs until a decision is made. Although it is possible that you will be called for a medical, it is by no means a certainty.

    Thanks for your reply.
I've had a few medicals before but my doctor only recently mentioned applying for IP. I'll sendin the form & see what happens. There doesnt seem to be a medical section as such, it just says to say the name of the illness. Should I send in reports/test reults etc with the form?

Do send them if you have them. Go to the CIC ask them to photocopy the completed Application form and associated documents, keep the photocopies. You will send the application to Longford, they will then send it to the Medical Examiner in Dublin. You can imagine how busy he/she/they are, thats what is taking so long. Dont expect to hear anything for a long time.:(

I'm on illness benefit over 3 years. My doctor has stated i'm unfit to work. Social welfare send me before the board, i was cut off but appealed the decision. The deciding appeals officer agreed i am unable to work, so was put back on monthly certs . Was thinking about applying for invalidity pension, not sure how to go about it. Thanks all!
