About two years ago I got the windscreen on my EG repaired by a crowd that were in Citywest. They just did 3 or 4 chips for me, took my insurance details and off I went.

Friday afternoon I got a phonecall from the windscreen company...telling me my insurance company hadn't paid the fee yet

How do I proceed from here?

And yes, I do have windscreen cover...

If they informed you at the time that they would bill the insurance company directly, it should not be your problem. Maybe their paper work or agreement with the insurance company is not what it should be

It took them 2 years to contact you? Sounds to me like they are chancing their arm ringing you in the hope that you will settle the bill with them quickly rather than having to wait on the insurance company.

Tell them to deal with your insurance company directly as the dispute is between them, not you.

Tell them ring your insurance company. I would also ring them mysel to enquire if it had in fact been paid or if a a payment had been requested at all.

I have the exact same thing going on at the moment, They told me it was free through my insurance company. Now they are using some credit management company to get the money from me. Dont want to hijack this thread, but just to careful. I beleive it is a breach of contract, been informed it was free and now chasing me for money.

    I'd contact your insurance company.

Do you only have windscreen replacement or is repair included in that also?

I had my windscreen replaced recently. I rang my insurance company who told me that they only had an agreement with one company & if I went with any other I would have to pay the bill myself & forward the invoice back to the insurance company for payment. This is probably the issue with the op.

What happens if that particular company happens to be rubbish?

Is it possible the repair company didn't invoice the insurance company for several months and that, when they did, your policy was with someone else? They may have fallen outside of some claim limit and now be trying to get it from you instead...

Hi this seems to becoming more and more of problem with windscreen chip repair companies working in shopping malls. Getting four chips repaired on the one screen is normally not common as it would normally be cheaper to put in a new one. Unfortunately your contract for repair is with the company who repaired your windscreen. They do tell people it is free, but that is covert marketing for, you don't have to pay now ,we will bill your insurer and if they don't pay we will chase you through court. It should be reported to the Advertising Standards Authority. A similar issue was on Galway Bay Fm about a year ago.Guy got a "free Chip Repair" only to find a charge of €250 on his insurance renewal slip. If you have windscreen cover your insurer should reimburse some of the costs if (a)you are with the same iinsure, and (b) windscreen cover was valid at the time of breakage. The windscreen industry are looking to have regulations introduced to control such practices.

Ask them to provide you the original document you signed accepting the work that was going to be carried out or was carried out.
If they can't provide you with this, they can sit on their invoice.
