    Thursday 23rd June 2011.
    Morning 9:30 - 12:00

You'd swear I'm the only one doing it on this forum! (maybe i am :P) But I'm actually not dreading it! I'm hoping for a c/b and I love the poetry! Once I started learning it it was all easy :) There's only 2 of us that are doing it so it will only be 2 of us in on that morning!

I'm doing it too, love the subject, almost a guaranteed 90+. Tbh I prefer the poems to most poems in English (Give me Catullus over Dickinson any day) and I'm hoping Arrius comes up because I love talking about that one. Dislike the history but should get it done within a week. Comprehension is typically fairly easy as are translations (In mocks I got 80/80 on first translation). Funnily enough in our class one guy got 97 in the mocks (He is insane at latin and french and Spanish and if he did it Italian because he's fluent), I got 91 and the next best was 66 followed by some poor results.

hahahaha I'd hate to be a common person. Latin's an awesome subject, I'd choose it over any other language (I do irish, english, french and spanish and latin is the best).

What does learning Latin involve? I suppose ye hardly have to write letters for your exams. :p

    Dear Jesus of Nazareth,
Thank you for your last letter and gift of a clay cup. The cup was great. I am sorry to hear you found out that Joseph is not your actual father.

Question 1: translating 1 of 19 learnt off poems and answering qs on it (80 marks)
Question 2: Latin to English translation (usually something historical) (80 marks)
Question 3: Comprehension, answer in english (again it's typically based around history) (80 marks)
Question 4: Latin to English or English to latin translation choice (Again, something historical) (80 marks)
Question 5: Political history 264BC-44BC, answering 5 short short qs out of ten and then 1 long question out of 2 (For long question you write about a person, there are 9 that can come up) (40 marks)
Question 6: Social history, 5 short qs out of ten and long q, topics like baths and circus maximus, I think 14 can come up.

Very big course, lots of work required.

I'd actually loved to have done Latin, seems like a (I know people will disagree with me here but..) really interesting subject. I find Roman history very interesting :P

Actually that's the one part I hate. Punic wars are decent (and they got a lot of coverage, typically 4 out of 10 short questions are on thme and there are 2 people in the 2nd one that can come up) but don't like the rest.

FunkyOxygen.. You sly sly whore.. You bailed on your Science predictions..
    Your fault if everyone fails.

Sly whore? Bit harsh don't you think? don't make assumptions that i'm being a bitch by not posting them clearly there's a reason and as you seem to care so much it's that she clearly stated on the bottom of them (as i was going to scan and upload) that they are copyrighted, if i uploaded them she would recognise them as she also uses boards and then perhaps blame my brothers schools' third year's- I'm not willing to get them all into trouble just because I stated i COULD post them if anyone wanted them not i AM. Also if you were relying so heavily on predictions you obviously were screwed from the start :/

Relax :L I was joking, i didnt even care :L Its grand you didnt, and yeah i was screwed.. Worried about it :L

So, fellow students, what do you think will come up in history long questions and the poem? I know there's a prediction thread but mixing in with the riff-raff in that thread would defeat the purpose of latin.

    My predictions:
    Poem: Ovid: Symprathy for Ceres
Political history, long question: Sulla/Publius Scipio Africanus major
Social history long question: Circus maximus.

They have to be nice on the social history long question because of the one that came up last year! They definitly won't ask a phaedrus or catullus poem they're too easy! I HOPE TO GOD a virgil doesen't come up i hate them!!

They have asked Catullus once out of 5 times, but Phaedrus has only come up in the ordinary (twice out of five times mind you). Interestingly in none of the other cycles ordinary level poems never came up in higher but they have come up the last 3 times in our cycle.

Also, last year's question in social history long was far far more basic than any other year. I could've got full marks that year for social history long (And it would probably be my weak section). What grade are you expecting in this?

I'm going to do soo badly. :/
I'm hoping to bring my Mark up with the history and poem, but apart from that I'm screwed.

Really looking forward to this, anyone else planning on doing it for the leaving cert?

Absolutely spot on, my predictions, which is very hard to do in latin because there are few ways of knowing which poem will come up unless it came up before (and only 5 had out of 19).

    Poetry:
Knew the poem, gave all 6 questions a shot, should be at least 75/80 on this question.
    First translation:
Forgot a couple of words but it's the same every translation, again very happy.
    Comprehension:
Decent story, questions were very basic and we got an option of 14 which really helped me out (did them all)
    Optional translation:
Did both but did way better on latin to english which I fully understood.
    Political history:
Short questions a little harder than usual but did them all so should get good marks, did BOTH essays, Sulla essay was better as my hand hurt when writing the second one.
    Social history:
Short questions I thought were a little bit unusual but I think I did well. Were Greek slaves chosen because they were smarter? Delighted with circus maximus, knew the first 2 and got over half a page for the letter done.

Delighted with the test, certain A, would put my life on it more so than any other subject.
