iPad 2 all the way. Got one recently and the laptop has not been touched since. I don't use it for work either! Battery is great too. Approx ten hours between charges.

    Laptop!!
while the ipad is fine for a bit of surfing and the odd few emails, it is no substitute for a laptop. certainly you will find the multitasking frustrating on the ipad and no flash support.

What he said. iPad 2 is no laptop!!! It's designed for consuming data, not producing it.

An iPad is not a laptop. Don't compare it to a laptop and don't expect it replace the functionality of a laptop. It can't do everything a laptop can do, nor is it supposed to. However, a lot of people don't really need a laptop. They have them as secondary machines, lug them around in big bags and use them to send emails and browse the web. If you are likely to be one of those people, then you should seriously consider an iPad. It's lighter and more mobile than a laptop, is extremely easy to use, requires no maintenance, has great battery life, and does what it does extremely well.

    no flash support.

no flash support is meaningless....I had the ipad and yet to encounter a site that required flash.
On the other hand I have a motorola xoom and was going to install the latest flash version until I read the reviews "don't install, all you get is increased ads on your broswer etc" oh how I lolled :D

So all the hullabulloo over flash is a load of nonsense...the only ones still using crap are crappy websites that can't be bothered to update and ad firms...

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Don't have an iPad but do have an iPhone and I've never noticed lack of flash to be a problem. In fact on both my work and home machines I have FlashBlock installed - just don't really need flash!

I'd find it very hard to do serious work on an iPad, but I'd still love to get one - can't justify it as I have laptop and iPhone.

    Thanks for all the responses,

I'd just be using it for e-mail and surfing the web nothing too technical. The only thing is that i;m living in new york for a year and i'd be buying it over here. would it still work when i take it home to Ireland

WiFi model will definitely work when you bring it back here, I think the 3G models may be locked to AT&T. If so you should be able to jailbreak/unlock it by next year too anyway.

As regards flash I have encountered quite a few websites on the iPad which require it - I suppose it depends on which sites you use but it definitely can be annoying.

Overall my laptop usage has dropped significantly since I bought an iPad.

For things like Office etc. I would definitely keep hold of a laptop though.

bought an ipad last week and my home laptop use has gone from always being beside me whilst home to only being used to sync more movies to the ipad and everything else is done on the ipad. best investment yet i think

What sort of sites do you mean? I am thinking of buying an ipad for browsing mostly.

Flash is video, games and ads mostly. Any decent site won't rely on it. Uninstall Flash and try browsing around your usual sites to test.
