k, im going to try and cover everything that i will possibly get coming back at me after i post this.

I'm looking for a psychiatrist here in Dublin. Yes i have googled and found the HSE dateabses and many more besides most of which are listed in other threads asking similar things to this, that I am asking. But I do not have teh money to pay for a psychiatrist.
I am on a medical card.
But I am on my OLD GP's medical card system, in a different county. They have told me to find my own GP up here, which i have tried doing but they are all full apparently frm the inquieries i have made.
I ahve been under teh "care" of a psychiatrist in the last county i was in, but they have said the same thing as my GP, to find a service up here and they will forward my notes.
Now, as i have not got a GP, i cant be forwarded onto a psychiatric care team up here, and I'm rightly pissed off at this point.

I dont know of any other way of getting psychiatric care team than being refered form a GP, other than being admited to a psych ward, which in all honesty i dont want, hence why im trying to find a team now.

~Any and all help will be welcomed and i thank you all in advance.
And i hope you can all understand that it has taken alot for me to post this.

Also, not looking for psycho therapist or counsellor or naything of that ilk. I am in teh process of setting up a counsellor here, i need a psychiatric team for monitoring my medications. Thank you.

Either look up the HSE website or phone the HSE
We also provide an information service by telephone, the HSE INFOLINE, callsave 1850 24 1850. You can talk to our infoline staff about any of our services, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm.
and they'll tell you where your local HSE mental health service is based.

Phone your old psychiatrist with that information, and ask them to refer you. It seems a bit ridiculous that they aren't providing you with the information themselves, but cachement areas can be difficult to understand unless you know the geography of an area.

HSE mental health services are provided free of charge, and that includes psychiatric assessment, out-patient appointments, in-patient admission, day hospitals, day centres, therapy, social work etc etc etc.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you, yes it does help.
Why the Dr's i have been dealing with couldnt help with this is beyond me its stressful enough going to a new psych without not having anyone to help you make the connection and stuff.
    Ugh.
But yes thank you very much for that helpline, i ahve a feeling i called them already, but i will persevere :)

I also did not know that mental health services were free of charge.

Hi having recently been through a few reversals of Fortune , it has been suggested to me by an acquaintance that i seek out medication and basically stop calling his wife when i'm 'in bits'. That makes sense, as she has a fulltime job dealing with him and their lovely kids, and as i am well past the age where being 'together' is not only vital but damned well expected of one, i am looking for a psychiatrist to help me sort through this turmoil that is my life at present.
Any helpful kind ideas or thoughtful suggestions gratefully accepted . Thank you have a great day

Your GP can refer you to a psychiatrist (a medical doctor who has specialised in psychiatry, and who can prescribe medication) in your local public HSE mental health services. The psychiatrist will then assess you and refer you to appropriate services such as Day Centre, Day Hospital, Out Patient attendance, follow up by Community Mental Health Nurses, counselling/therapy provided by nurses and other team members, psychiatric social worker, or whatever is appropriate. You can discuss what is appropriate, and what kind of service you would like with the psychiatrist. You might even be referred to the Psychologist.

OR your GP might refer you to the Primary Care Team, who also have nurses/social workers/psychologists etc.

Talk with your GP always as a first option, to see what you need.

All these HSE mental health services are free of charge.
