my cousin just bought a Mk5 Golf TDi.
She got the normal remote key for doors and boot etc but it is in bits, falling apart and most likely wont last long.

She also got a brand new key which starts the car etc but it is a standard ket without the unlock buttons.

Can she go somewhere and buy a multi function key, get it cut and transfer the chip?

Is it the flick key? The top bit with the physical key comes off the rest of the unit if it is.

If you can find another VAG group key with the same button set up, you can transfer the PCB from one key to another, and just pop the bit with the key on the top.

Had to do that with the 2 keys for my Octavia when I got it. The bit that connects to your keyring was destroyed. It's simple enough to do if you can get hold of the carcass for the key.

if its a flip key something like this http://cgi.ebay.ie/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-FLIP-KEY-FOB-CASE-/260667248198?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb0fa8e46 might do the trick.
as ror said just transfer the blade and internals
