    Depends on the car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,753 ✭✭✭qz

Deffo. Although come November it'd be looking manky with all the dirt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,686 ✭✭✭✭Zubeneschamali

Mostly avoid. Reminds me too much of imported 2nd hand japanese rubbish.

There are some cars it suits: a Mk V GTI or a new Scirocco looks good in white.

Depends on the car. If it's a Jap import Toyota Corona then no, if it's a Focus RS or something then yes go for it

I think high end cars can look great in white, mercs, bmw and audi mainly... I love the high black gloss on the roof that you see some of those cars with! :)

I think it depends on the white. BMW Alpine White and Ford Frozen White are the nicest imo.

The car has got to be German, or a high-end Ford with tinted windows, or a handful of other exceptions. Anything else just looks like the base model.

    Depends on the car

entirely, more so than any other colour. most cars look ****e in white, some look awesome

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Avoid. White is for vans only :)

    Funnily enough........;)

This would be a whole lot easier if you told us what car you were considering ;)

It needs to have aggesive styling to get away with white. The new model A4 get's away with it because of the front end, but the old one looked rubbish. 3 Series ES or SE just looks cheap, but the M-Sport can carry it off, same on the 5.

I do think it's a bit of a passing fad, but hope white stays popular for long enough to get decent money on the white cars we've put out over the past couple of years.

The Auris Van looks awesome in white - some say it's similar to a Scirocco from certain angles (if you are half blind and squint a bit, in the dark).

Despite my aversion to white, I quite like the Ford Kuga in Frozen White.

Id say avoid unless its an Audi A4

A new model Focus 5 door Zetec in Frozen White with 17" alloy/tyre upgrade and rear privacy glass. I think it looks pretty sharp.

That will look pretty good. This with a set of Alloys would be OK:

Unless I change careers and become a gard, paramedic, or van driver, I'm firmly in the avoid camp I'm afraid.

Do it. Will look great. The one pictured looked really well IMO. I like the metallic red too

    Will advise.

The wheel/tyre upgrade and rear privacy glass will make it stand out a bit I'd hope.

Historically at least many white cars were basic spec.

Hell no, white cars are horrid imo, with the exception of wedding cars.

White boggo spec is terrible, white high spec in the right car is class.
It's like white shades - some just can't pull it off! ;)

100% no. Every once in awhile there is a white fad, usually for a year or two, but it dies a death quickly and then no-one wants them, and they will always be worth less come trade in time, or harder to sell privately, be it a Micra or an M3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

I love white cars ( car dependent obviously ) but I would be slow to buy one because you'll always find it harder to shift on. People seem to think its got a disease in white, don't understand it myself.

Give me an e92 M3 in white with red leather interior.

    Nom nom nom.

I collected a new VW Golf GTD last week in candy White, so clearly I'm in the Yes camp! I love it, suits the car brilliantly and I've had nothing but huge compliments for it so far!

I would agree it needs to be a well spec'd, high end model. The Golf in base model White obviously doesn't look so great, but a base model looks drab no matter what the colour.

Henry, for what it's worth, my local ford dealers has a new focus Titanium demo model in White and I think it looks excellent.

    LOL
Can't let the side down you know. :D

    But to answer your query.

I have no idea how many of the posters that replied to your question actually have/had a white car but i can honestly say from experience that during this weather it is a breeze to keep clean. ( Except for a few flies on the front but nothing a good pre-soak wont shift)
I washed my one last friday and it still looks clean after 500kms,
Will be getting washed again later.

As one poster said. Wait till November.
As it happens i took delivery of my one last october and knocked up lots of mileage during the crap weather we had.

Yes it got filthy but so did every other car I ever owned during bad weather.

Was it easy to clean again?

    Absolutely.

    Motto ?

keep it waxed/sealed with whatever you prefer to use.

    And as others have said..
It is 100% down to car model as to know if white will suit or not.

I saw a white insignia recently and it looked Puke :D

Would also concur with vectra.... It's very easy to keep clean, doesn't show up the dirt anything like my last dark metallic did. Tar spots will be more obvious though.

Most of performance cars look amazing in White. Thought not all day to day cars look good in White. You need to get the preferred car and see it in White to judge it - is it good or no.

Ford in White will look good m8. Was thinking one about older 3 door (08ish) in White at one stage. Looked class with nice alloys.

Weirdly enough, I dont like older BMW in White. It just does not suit them.

Once I sow 2010 passat in White and surprisingly it looked really really good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

Like many have said, it depends entirely on the car.

I never imagined I'd have a white car, that was until I saw a 3 door MK5 GTI with 18's in the flesh and had to have one!

    Here she is: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=71842356#post71842356

Oh.......and it is much easier to keep clean than my previous black Golf. :)

This is my dream car, no other car, no other colour. Nothing comes close to perfection than this. I'm lucky to own my affordable dream car right now. A4 Avant. Oh how I wish it was white :)

I remember in the 70s on some cars white paint was standard. Colour paint was a little bit extra and metallic extra again

Whenever I see a white car I have an association with it being the cheapest of the cheap. People bought it who couldn't even bring themselves to spend a couple of pounds on colour paint

That's the reason why white cars depreciate more than any other colour!

The BMW E34 525 in white is spectacular. By far the best colour for that car (and still one of my favourite cars of the 90s)

My ole E34 was white, looked well I thought.

I agree with the agrassive styling point, white often works well with it.

    Rover James sneering - now there's a first! :D

p.s. New Focus has 4 trim levels here. Zetec is 1 below the top Titanium level. The plan is to include the best engine and a good few optional extras so that'd make it a high end Ford in my opinion. It's certainly far from cheap!

    Rover James sneering - now there's a first! :D

Unless it's an RS or ST or whatever the performance options are called I wouldn't class any Focus as high end. Nothing against the Focus, I'd say the same about an Astra and Corolla etc. Nothing in that market segment is high end imo.

What's the best engine you are referring to?

Doesn't matter you'd only sneer at it :D

p.s. RS and ST aren't available on the new Focus. They'd be high performance models btw, and not necessarily high end.

White cars have really grown on me over the last year or so, seems to be a very popular choice these days for new cars. The amount of white '10/'11 Audis and BMWs around is mad.

It looks awesome on some cars. Some not so much.

Actually saw a Focus RS - cant remember the year, think it was 09 or 10 - parked outside Prussia Street Tesco recently. White with black alloys, spoiler and tints. It looked pretty f*cking awesome tbh.

i would agree with tyou there
    BUT
    Back then only.
The wheel of time has turned and that is no longer the case,
As was the case back in the 70's/80's. A BMW was classed as a Poor mans Merc.
is this the same today then?
    Not likely
