    Hi Guys

looking to get scrap metal (cars, bits of tractors etc) taken away from a house not too far from Sligo, I've been down to the guys in Erin Recycling in Sligo docks, just looking to see who else in the region would be interested in this kind of stuff, prices paid etc.

    Cheers

I am not from sligo but was in te business unless the rules have changed somehow... Unless you take this away yourself and strip it down to the components you will most likely be charged for the privalage of having it taken away for you.

Also, According to the law you must check the person who takes it is tax registered because if its dumped somewhere you are liable for the clean up

and they will be able to get the last owners from the numbers.

Have you thought of stripping it down...Might be a nice nixer on a couple of weekends.

Firstly, what are you looking to get rid of? there may be people looking for something that you have.

Greenstar will take them, but they may or may not charge you for it.
Erin Recyclers may pay you for it.

Willie Tighe will also take Scrap cars. Not sure if he'll pay for them though. Not sure of his business name, but here he is on the old bundoran road.

Here. Up the road and in to the right.

    Hi

thanks for the replies, I have spoken to Erin Recyclers, they will take all i have and pay ~ 100 euro/tonne but they will have to use a lorry with a grab on it, I would have preferred to use a skip and have it taken away once full, but they cannot do this, it means having to drag all the crap out of the sheds and leave it in a pile and then if the grab on the lorry cannot lift it (too small etc) it will have to be handballed into the truck.

North West Dismantlers in grange, but I'd avoid them if you could. Not the nicest bunch of chaps.

For scrap metal would say going to Erin down the quays.

If you need auto parts, I remember in the early 1990s going to a place near Lisnaskea, about 15 miles from Enniskillen to a Yard called Nixons..... they were breaking all types of cars... from bangers to new ones wrote off in smashes.

Got some great deals there back then, and i would expect that they are still in operation.... givin the state we/me r in!

PM me and I may find out more details, But from memory it was ROY NIXON BREAKERS and that was....1993 ...I think

If you leave it out beside the road it'll be swiped in no time :D

There are loads of bucks going round collecting all sorts of scrap, but Erin are the only ones who really should be.

Most of the rest are not legit and will be taking a cut too.

Some bucks even take stuff whether you would like them to or not.

The price of scrap has gone up and stayed up recently.

    Commodities eh

They are obnoxious to the nth degree.

I am in the trade and they even treat me with contempt

fwiw, there's plenty of breakers out there with a good range, and I know where i'd rather spend my money.

    ......

as above, if i was in the market for manners i would not deal with NW.....but the quality of their spares is quite good so i continue to deal with them but over the years, i have found that the bark is worse than the bite when push comes to shove.

Try NW breakers. They took an 01 opel off me last week. Sorted out the end of life cert and gave me a cheque for €50. As mentioned above, not the friendliest of people, but if they want what you have they'll take it from you.

While i'm here. Does anyone know where I'd get rid of a load of old bicycles?
