    hi there,

in an effort to stop me buying a sg II or a sensation, i think that rooting the my HTC Legend and putting a new rom on it might be an idea? One of the big issues i have at the moment is that i'm running out of phone memory for apps-i've moved as many as possible to the sdcard, and deleted any non-used in the last 3 months apps, but still only have 29MB phone memory.

Would it be worthwhile, is it difficult and which ROM would be the best?

If I had a detailed, step by step guide I should be ok with doing it myself - but those I've seen on other sites are daunting.

(yes i have googled, but would prefer to hear what boardsies think than other internet random people)

hmm, I thought there'd be some advice on this here. I had looked at the cyanogen site since i posted here, but it seems to be a very complicated procedure? Is it?

I have the Legend. Great phone but probably the worst I've ever had when it comes to rooting etc. Basically, yes you can root it. It's overly-complicated and from what I know WiFi and Bluetooth won't work on nearly all ROMs. So while you can load Cyanogen or another ROM all you can do is marvel at how pretty it is & not a whole lot else.

Get LauncherPro+ & Desktop Visualizer, I found that the best alternative to start customizing to your hearts content.

cheers squire, was actually looking at launcherpro free over the weekend - it's better to pay up for the plus then?

You see a lot of threads and blogs recommending to buy LPP+ straight off but I wouldn't. I'd recommend to grab it & try it out for a while first, then upgrade if you like. A lot of these recommendations are based on the fact that people who are running devices with larger screens (ie. the 4.3"ers) use a grid setting of 10x10 to allow them more customization. With this you then need LPP+'s option to allow you to resize any widget.

Check here to see what you can actually do with it & a few other apps.

Absolute nonsense, there are countless ROMS available for the legend that are not alpha and have all functions, such as wifi, blutetooth, working.

To root your phone use this

Then check out xda for ROMS. CyanogenMOD works flawlessly as does Blayo's ROM.

I must second this, have the HTC Legend, and have spent time using both ROMS...

1st off, you'd be better off reading my entire post first. I never said you couldn't root - i just said it was complicated. Not only is rooting the actually device itself more complicated than others, you also have to downgrade if you're running the 2.2 (which most people are by now) + plus create a Goldcard which a lot of people have diffciulty doing.

I also never said that WiFi & Bluetooth doesn't work - I just said that they don't work on some ROMs. Since he's wanting to purchase SGSII, it's safe to assume he wants Gingerbread and unless I'm completely mistaken, they are no available Gingerbread ROMs with WiFi & Bluetooth working.

CyanogenMOD is gingerbread and the gold card is a piece of piss.

piss easy for someone who knows what they're doing maybe, but not to me. no way would i attempt it from those instructions - half of which i didn't understand. downgrade the phone, downgrade the HTC sync, then create a goldcard, but before you do that you have to setup the ADK in order to set up the ADB/USB drivers???? and all that before even installing the ROM? jaysus no.

    but thanks anyway!
