Gym Injuries

So I'm sitting at my desk already when I should be in the gym. Sitting is all I can really do at the moment, standing/walking is tricky business. I shouldn't have tried that next set of squats when I felt something wrong in my lower back. I'm so bloody annoyed too because I have been so good lately, going early in the mornings before work. I don't know how long this will set me back :(

But, enough about me. What is your gym injury story?

I stood on a moving treadmill that I didn't think was moving (it was on a fast setting too). Summersault.
My ipod landed 30 feet across the gym. :)

Ok, I can hardly walk. Should I just go home and lie down? Sitting at an office desk probably not the best idea.

Get to a good physio and have them work on your lower back. Then see how you feel. This could be the difference between a few days out from training or a few weeks.

Was doing my 2nd set of squats and got funny feeling in lower back afterwards. Went ahead and did another 2 sets anyway. The next day I barely could walk because of the lower back pain.

Two days later the pain went away a bit but started to feel numbness and sort of tingling pain from my right buttock down the leg. Went to a doctor and he diagnosed me with sciatica, which I did myself anyway from reading the symptoms on the net.

It has been 2 weeks now and things are getting better but it may take weeks or months until it is healed properly. I can forget about leg workout for a while...

Should you not just go to a doctor? Could be something fairly common like, sitting around the place in pain isn't what you're meant to do AFAIK.

I would caution against self diagnosis tbh. Every injury is different. This is why Doctors and physios spend so long training.

I also previously hurt my back squatting. Left if a few weeks, then when back felt ok I tried squatting again. Nearly fell under the bar  Bit the bullet and went to my Physio. Seen him on a Tuesday and was back training the following Friday, pain free.

Again my advice is go an see a good physio. I can provide the name of a good physio on Dublins south side if that is any use. And I advise a Physion over a Doctor as I will go to a Doctor if I feel unwell. But if I injure myself through training/sports, then I go straight to the physio as they specialise in this type of injury. Beats paying €60 to a GP to get a refferal letter to a physio ;)

I'm going to rest up today and straight to the physio tomorrow. I've done pretty much the same thing from deadlifts and the physio was great!

    was doing deadlifts for 10

7...8...9...ping!!!:(, that was almost the noise my lower back made it was that sharp.....i knew i had issue becase the exact same thing happened one day doing standing curls, and before that doing standing military press.

but from the deads the pain was unbearable to off to the quack for a load of diclac and tramol, 4 days of pain killers and i felt ok-ish and then went for my first ever physio, we worked on my back for 2 weeks and after that my back was fine but my right hip was giving out, turns out my back pain was just the end result of a hip flexability issue.....deadlifts\curls\press...all using the hip and when it couldnt take the strain the back would compensate...and then give in.....still at physio but its was a good relief to get to the root of an issue i would have never sussed on my own!!
