So im just curious what modifications would be best to do on this make and model and what kind of parts are best for the car

Also any suggestions on good car mod sites would be helpful

The whole VAG scene is huge now in Ireland, personally id keep it clean and work with the OEM lines, maybe just add a splitter, where id spend money is suspension and wheels they make a huge difference, a nice amount of lowering and good offest wheels and it will be a totally different thing.

For some inspiration and advice check out these links

A lad i know runs www.freshfix.net he is into his VAG and regularly has some tastey VAG cars on feature.

Also sign up to www.vagdrivers.net im not on it myself but its supposed to be the place to go for VAG owners

    Hope that helps you.

you can get v-maxx coilovers for bout 400, they are highly rated among VAG drivers...

Ouch! Are there any coilovers that are cheaper? I just want a basic setup like its my first car and its obviously gonna get bumps and scrapes and I dont want to invest in it loads

not really v-maxx are one of the cheapest available. you could get lowering springs for probly less than half that price though but you wont be able to set the height you want with them...

I know a guy selling coilovers for 200 quid but there for a mk2 Golf so dunno if they would fit in a mk4 polo :S

i dunno that much bout VWs now but based on the age difference of the two cars i'd say thay wont fit...

Good enough for what though? If you want it slammed to the floor (literally) then you'd probably need coilovers but it would make the ride very hard and speedbumps/multistory car parks etc. would be a pain.

See I thought coilovers are better than lowering springs for making the car lower and for better ride for the car, but again im getting bad information :S

Thanks for the info B00MSTICK!!! :) I take it lowering springs are cheap enough?

Well they are and they aren't.... if you lowered your car lets say around 40- 50mm on just springs, it'll be low but the shocks wont have nearly as much travel as they did before and won't perform as they should, lowered the same amount on coilovers (as opposed to completely slammed as low as it'll go which is what most people use them for ) It'll be low but at least the dampers are the right length and you've more chance of having an appropriate amount of travel compared to height and spring rate. Now it's going to be stiffer with the coilovers and maybe more rattly if you're tearin along over bumps etc but it wnt be as bouncy and the handling will be better with coilovers than with just lowering springs.

Now the other option is get a matched set of sports shocks and springs, but given that you can now get coilovers for similar money i wouldnt bother

oh and just go on vagdrivers.net, since it's an actual vw enthusiasts forum and there's pleny of guys on there who know a ridiculous amount of stuff about vws
