Hi, I am planning to sell this 1980 MK2 Ford Transit but I don't know what its worth. Its in pretty good condition and is kitted out as a camper van. Any advice about its value would be much appreciated

When was it last on the road? Has it been in the country long?

I last used it properly in 2008. I took it for a short spin last summer but it wasn't road legal so I didn't go far. Its been in Ireland since 2008.

"V" -reg is 1979-80, so its elligible for €50 VRT. Pay the VRT and get an Irish reg on it, it will make the van less hassle for the new buyer. Its a 1980 so it needs an annual NCT/DOE which will make the van less valuable.

It has no high roof so I don't think it can be registered as a camper as there is no 1.80m standing height in it. It won't matter as the tax for a classic is only €48.

Then give it a wash, check to see it drives far enough for a test drive, look up donedeal.ie and other sites and see what they are looking for. If its been sittin garound it will probably need work done on it, it needs an NCT/DOE so it might not be worth a lot.

    Petrol? Diesel?

    Hi redeight,

The guys over on the Motorhomes and Campervans forum may be able to help with a valuation. Also, I don' t think it needs to meet the 1.8 standing height to be classified as a camper anymore. Again, the guys will be able to confirm this.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the replies. It has petrol engine.
I have seen two on donedeal, one at €3750 in immaculate condition and one at €1000 looking pretty rough.
I'm not sure if the guy selling for €3750 is dreaming or are these vans becoming desirable to collectors ?

anyone in the know will be looking for rust as panels are very hard to come by,doors, bonnet are the main problem ones.what's it like mechanically as again some parts are hard to get.i think over 3000 is a bit hopefully and maybe even 1000 for a rough one again depending what she's like.they are quite desirable but not as much as some of the mk1's.
