i just bought a car from a garage - they advertised it with the nct but when i went to look at it they said they were due to put it through that week. I asked them about one of the tyres with a chunk taken out and he said that'd be ok. When I collected the car there was no water in the windscreen washer - I know these are 2 minor things but normally they'd be enough to fail the nct ( experience tells me this). Am I right to be concerned about the car and is it worth getting it retested at another centre?

Have you bought the car? Without the NCT?

Water+washer fluid can be put in, no big deal. But the tire sounds dodgey. It's hard to make a call on it without seeing it, but it doesn't sound good.

I asked the garage why there was no water in considering it had just been for its nct - he told me he'd filled it and 'they must have used it all' is it better to get the aa to check it ove

"They must have used it all..." should tell you something about the dealer's integrity!

Did you get the NCT certificate with the pass/fail sheet?

The tyre is a fail anyway.

Did you see the recent program about NCT certs & some centres?
Just cause the car has a cert doesn't mean it actually went through all the tests....Both issues are open to the tester to check not machines so mistakes or little errors like this may occur...
Really need to see a pic of the tyre to see how bad it is....

The tyre should be a fail.
Windscreen water i wouldnt care about but with the dealers attitude id walk.

Has the tyre been replaced with a safe new tyre. If you can post a pic of the tyre in question, if it has not we can get an idea of the damage.

From your post id be concerned.
