Ford Fiesta Style - Speakers are extra?!

Bought a Ford Fiesta there a bit back. Only recently we noticed that the speakers in the back didn't seem to be working. I brought it out to the dealer as I got a 3 year warranty with it. They booked me in, saying that it was probably a software error. I went in today and they had a guy look at it. He sat into the car and got straight back out. Handed the keys back and told me everything was fine, that my car didn't come with speakers in the back, that they were extra!?!

This seems ridiculous to me. There are speakers in the front of the car and there is a speaker grille in the back doors but apparently, there is no speakers behind these. If the person in the back wants to be able to hear anything at all, it has to blare out the front speakers, deafing the people in the front.

Is this the standard now? That they cut every last corner to save a buck and hope the buyer doesn't notice until it is too late? If I see a speaker, I expect a speaker, but alas, this isn't the case anymore.

Car companies are doing this kind of thing at the moment (cruise control gone from the new passat etc..) to fit a car to a price bracket, id imagine the wiring is all there , you can get a good set of speakers bought and fitted for less than 100 euro in a lot of car audio shops , if its bothering you that may be the best option

Go back to whoever sold you the car and tell him/her if they have any hope of keeping you as a customer they must install speakers, free of charge.

Ive had a few cars like that I always check now before buying, its not really a major issue you could buy a set of speakers in halfords for about 40 euro and fit them yourself they are quite easy to install

The last car I owned that didn't have rear speakers was a 1988 Pug 205, we've come along way...I say less airbags and more heated/cooling/massaging seats.

I presume the specification of the Fiesta Style mentioned that it had rear speakers when you researched the vehicle?

FYI - Golf MKIV Comfortline's only had front speakers when launched.

The OH was buying a new Focus recently, the 'Style' model was pretty sparse..she ended up ordering a Titanium

I'm fairly sure that Comfortline spec at launch (1998) included the Gamma stereo and four speakers. You're right, though, the OP should have checked what they were buying before placing the order.

Aahhh... I can't remember. I presume it didn't seeing as it didn't come with them.

Our Saab 9-3 died and it would have cost more to repair it than it was worth so we just scrapped it. We could only afford the entry model Ford. Would have loved to have gone for the Zetec or whatever the higher model is.

Aye. It wasn't ordered. It was what they had in stock at the time. It was bought based on viewing in rather than on specs. We knew it was minimum specs, but I still presumed that would include speakers in the back.

AFAIK early baseline MK V's didn't have rear speakers.

Maybe, my encyclopaedic knowledge of VAG specs only runs as far as early 99.;)

If I'm not mistaken, they already have him as a customer - and have his money........so what carrot are you waving, exactly ??

Oh, and OP, lol, no rear speakers: now you know it's a recession.........welcome to the '80's.......that must have saved Ford..........oh, €3 ?

Hold on a second, we are talking about a fiesta, not a stretched limo. Blaring is a bit of an exaggeration to say the least.

It has to be above a comfortable level for the people in the front for people in the back to hear it for talk-shows, news-broadcasts, anything that involves talking.

Think I might see what Halfords can do.

dont bother with halfrauds , if your in dublin go to safesounds or asidec or similar, theyll fit you a set of decent pioneer or clarion speakers for under 100, halfrauds will sell you some vibe or fusion sh*te

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I dont find it so unreasonable that there are no speakers in the back. Its a small cheap car and if your car is a fairly basic spec, its no great surprise

The bog spec Mark IV's dont have them. Ie. Mine :(:o
    1998 to 2000 at least.
I wonder would the wiring be there. . .
Ill have to check the back of the radio again.

Our other car, an 01 Opel Agila, arguably one of the worst cars ever made (Ok, that's a bit of an over-exaggeration :P) has rear speakers.

ahh ok, stick to main brands like pioneer, kenwood, sony and clarion for speakers though

Not defending for defending sake but the basic audio setup is....

Radio/CD with multi-functional display, MP3 compatible, 2-line display, four front speakers, remote audio controls and AUX connection for external music devices

Oddly enough, Fusion 6x9's came close to winning a 6x9 roundup of speakers a while back in an in car magazine I was reading. Having said that, all 6x9's aren't great at reproducing sound anyway.

thats the important part , 6x9s should always be avoided, there is no excuse for them

€3 on each Fiesta Style built - wouldn't mind finding that type of cash down the back of the sofa ;)

The "Paddy" spec Fiesta Style is actually better equipped than the UK spec Fiesta Style. The Irish version gets alloy wheels and front fog lights which are not standard on the UK spec Fiesta Style.

That is true, but the UK version gets a/c instead, and I know which I'd rather!

The Paddy spec Titanium is far worse for standard equipment than the UK model - the Paddy spec Titanium is more like their Zetec model! The Paddy spec Mk3 Focus is disgraceful for standard equipment unless you get a Zetec - the later Mk2s have loads of stuff in Style trim!

In fairness run out models are usually speced up to make them easier to shift. Not many cars in the Focus class would have bluetooth, alloy wheels, etc as standard. Base model Astra, Golf, etc would have little more than A/C as standard also.

Ya, that is the set up. I'd rather 2 front, 2 back rather than the 4 front though. Or instead of the remote audio controls for that matter? Reaching an extra 6 inches hardly is worthy of putting in a control in the steering wheel. Spend the money on rear speakers instead Ford. :P

Applies to the whole range, and includes usb/ipod socket too.

    Stick your reg in here:

    http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleSelection.do

Then expand the feature list on the right. This'll tell you everything fitted to the car, including the number of speakers (8 on mine :P).

Then bookmark that page, and put your next Ford in before you buy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 756 ✭✭✭whowantstwoknow

what format does it take the reg number? as I can get it to work?

    Thanks
