Hi, sorry if this has been asked loads of times but would like to know other people's opinions.

I had an interview last Friday with a company in Dublin city centre.

I thought it went very well.

Interviewer was very friendly and informal(even wore casual clothing, which surprised me). We seemed to click and there was plenty of laughter during the discussion. It was one of the most informal and relaxed interviews I've ever had.

It was very much a discussion about the position itself and my relevant experience and not really any silly HR questions like 'What are your weaknesses' etc that you can trip yourself up on.

Interview lasted about an hour and she asked me when I would be available to start, I said 2 weeks, discussed salary expectations(which I said were negotiable) and also asked me if the same time would suit for a 2nd interview.

She said they had one other candidate and I would hear back by Mon/Tues.
I really left with a positive feeling and was very excited.

Monday came and went and yesterday around 4pm I gave in and rang the agency. He said that he has only had positive feedback from the interview on Friday. Also the other candidate scheduled for interview has dropped out as he got a job elsewhere. He said he would ring company today to get more news and call me back.

Today I have heard nothing at all, and have to admit that it's driving me crazy.
Don't understand how time leading up to interview was a frenzy of activity between phone calls, e-mails and interview itself and now nothing is happening.

Am I right in thinking that the fact I have heard nothing is a very bad sign despite the very positive vibes I had?

    Sorry for long post!

if your dealing with an agency they might be trying to squeeze a few more pound out of the employer if they know the other applicant is gone

just a guess could be completely wrong

i wouldnt worry too much, its taken up to and including 6 weeks for me to get feedback in the past when "next week" was promised, even when that was to eventually be offered the job. You never can tell whats happening in a company, there could be someone out sick whos blocking the whole process.

if its a larger company then it can take a good while. if they say a week , it will probably be two.

Thanks for responses guys,,,,makes me feel a bit better.

Just that the waiting game is a killer but the thing is nobody knows whats going on behind the scenes.

i think we are all used to the tiger days when you would get a job offer the day you did the interview. those days are gone forever, we are now back to the process taking a few weeks.

if the team is already formed then the rush isnt there for the new member of staff as the others can handle the load. if its a new team then it can be different

    +1

Had an interview last Wed, was told I'd hear back by Fri/Mon (thought the Friday was a bit enthusiastic myself now, but hey..!). I know they had a LOT of people to interview after me.

Haven't heard a sound. I've had to wait up to 7 days before for a call back, so I'm trying not to give up hope, but God, the suspense is killing me.Thought it went well and I hoped I got it. I think you should be ok though OP, it's only been 3 days.

Crossing fingers for both of us!!!!

If you both want some sound advice from an old hand at the interview game then you should always think about doing this:

After the interview (a day or two later) type up a "thank you" letter to the interviewer along the lines of

    " Dear Ms/Mr Bloggs,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for making time from your busy schedule to meet with me on Friday (or whenever)."

Throw in some stuff about how you thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, were impressed with the workplace/environment and are very excited about the possibility of working for such a professional operation.

Sign it and hand deliver it to the receptionist and then fcuk off. The interviewer will be well impressed with such dedication, the personal touch and the originality of the concept. Plus it ensures that you have come back to the forefront of her/his mind when you may have faded since other candidates have been later interviewed.

Nobody ever thinks to do this....but I do and it's worked for me well in the past.

Today might be a little too late for the one of you who was interviewed last Friday but you never know. Anyway...something to think about in future.

    Peace!

    good post

i have also done this for my most recent application. did it 3 days after but i knew for a fact that no decision had been made.

we will see how it works! i did it via email though :-)

It sounds like you have a really good chance.

It is such bad manners though, I have gone for about ten interviews, and they are always full of promises, oh we'll call you even if you are unsuccessful, we can't wait to speak to you again etc.....Then they fall off the face of the earth.

Type, print and hand deliver next time. They never forget that.

In the past for me this has been a sort of silent PFO. Its a mostly British custom that when rejecting, be as passive and subtle as possible.

I suppose they are worried someone might come back with a can of petrol and matches, as scumbags (or 'yobs' in the UK) are on the forefront of everyone's mind.

Its terrible when they leave you hanging and you actually have to contact them and ask for your PFO

Thanks for the tip, which I think is very good.

However I was put forward for the interview via an agency and I am dealing with the agency only. Don't think it would go down well for me to contact the company direct.

Anyhow rang the agency again today and he told me that he cannot contact the interviewer as her phone has been ringing out with no answer for the last 2 days. So he reckons she's either in another office down the country for which he has no number for or she may be out sick.

So all is not lost yet.

    Thanks to everyone for help.

    Just to update everyone.

Rang agency again today 13 days after interview, and he said that he had just spoken to employer.

I didn't get the job as they said I didn't have enough experience and they are looking for the 'perfect' candidate.

Told I did a good interview.

I was insulted about the experience part as I have 7 years experience in an identical job in a larger company.

Either way, I'm very disappointed at not getting the job and being made wait so long. No way to treat people in my book.

Thanks to everyone for their posts, i will keep looking and hope someday to get lucky!

Have found recently that jobs are beings put on hold,so could b reason for delay in them getting back to u. Safest thing to do is email HR every 2 weeks. It's a reasonable request in that time
