Hi, I stayed home from work for 5 weeks.(ya during de recession). I was asked to visit (works) doctor. I was open and honest and told her I cudn be bothered getting out of bed. slept aprox 13 hrs per day. she said " You are depressed" and advised me to take some pills and to go for cognitive behavoural therapy.I dissagreed. I went to the pub and basically drank for de next 6 days/nights. I only stopped cos I ran out of money. now that the head is clearing after de drink I am wondering is there a reason for all de stupid things I do or used to do. i.e. binge drink, drugs, drink drive and others, or am I looking for nice comfortable excuse for being an A*s Ole? is CBT worth considering.

    Yeah, "You are depressed".

Take the prescription and go to cognitive behavoural therapy.

You must think there is something to what was said or you wouldnt be thinking about it. If you arent convinced go for a 2nd opinion

    Hi,

There are plenty of professionals out there with expertise to help eg GP and CBT therapists.
Get help while you still can and work with them, if you go on meds know what to expect e.g. stemporary side effects for a few weeks. In my experience I went ot a psychaitrist in Paris, he offered me meds and therapy, I refused both, one month later I became suicidal. I finally got help....meds (sometimes hit and miss, keep in touch with doctor) and therapy, took me a long while but now I am a lot better. Let the experienced people help, keep away from alternative medicine with this kind of stuff, do what works.
Good luck, plenty of help and tools out there that are evidence based, dont try and do it all by yourself.

thanks for de advice, to be honest I havnt been taken de whole thing dat serious cos I didn really see myself as depressed, still dont. not been flippent just honest. I do know I have issues. I have seen it close up with good friends and family. It would even suit with work and get paid for de time off I took recently. will not be afraid to seek help if I need it, I think.

Drank 6 days and 6 nights and only stopped because you ran out of money. I wouldn't class that as normal behavior.

If your drinking that much neither CBT nor antidepressants would do much good anyway imo.
