How many left?

I came across this UK website via Petrolblog (very good blog, by the way) and have just wasted half an hour of my working day on it. Given that we import so many classics from there, interesting to see what's still alive.

I had the impression there were more than a few hundred BMW 2002s currently licensed or SORN'd in the UK, but no, just over 200 - of all variations, including cabrio, tii, turbo etc. In fact only 4 turbos? That can't be right.

Would be cool if there was a similar site for Irish-registered cars, including imports. Is there any such thing?

Its an intresting site that. Shame there's more Morris Ital's left than Ford Capri 2l MK1's

Very good! Seems there's just a single Datsun 200L left in England , surely my one is the only one around here..not much hope of finding a spares car is there!

Gave that site a good going over recently, it's very good.

Some of the year by year attrition rates are unbelievable, e.g. Citroen BX and Ford Sierra.

I've seen this on a few sites and the figures are coming in for a lot of criticism in various places as not being correct. Don't know myself though

^^^^ That's because the data is from the DVLA/DfT and the website is a posh easy-to-use version that uses the official data that I mentioned in THIS thread ;)

Some random things I looked up there:

    Yugo Sana - 2!
Wartburgs (the other East German cars) - 39
    FSO Polonez - 2
Mazda 818 (there was one of these in Scrawb's yard) - 3
    Toyota Carina A10/A40/A60 - 25
    Fiat Strada (Ritmo) - 49
    Renault 4 - 271
    Datsun 140J/160J Violet: 15
    Talbot Solara: 19
    Morris Minor - 14688

There are only two Alfa Romeo ARNA's left in the UK, with both of them being on SORN (Statutory Off-road Declaration).

I have an owners manual for one, that's as close as iv ever got to one. Bit of a bastard car really, an Alfa engine and Nissan/Datsun bodywork... A sure recipe for disaster, if it was the other way round there would be some hope!:D

Unless late night gammy - eye has set in, there are 69 Saab 9000 Carlssons of all variants left? http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/saab_9000_carlsson_turbo

    Would that be right?

+ Clarkson's destroyed one or two of them over the years.

I seem to recall Clarkson saying there were circa 250 or 350 of them left before he blew that one up. That makes the numbers quoted for 2011 very confusing ... as per my own musings about the 9000 carlsson above. I wonder what the margin of error is?

Are those numbers correct? The UK went from 2160 Porsche 924`s in 2004 to just over 800 in 2011.

They are as correct as they ever will be (see my previous post link)

As they are GB figures, it does not include NI figures.
Accidents, scrapped, EXPORTS ;), etc. not included.

You'll be surprised how quickly numbers fall off before they are out of the "old banger" phase.

I drove one once - I have to say, and I rarely say this and even more so with an Alfa - but let them die, for God sake please just let them die.

It's just the amount actually taxed in any given year, I think you have to click on the cars to get the SORN figures?

I clicked on the Morris Ital.....so am I right in thinking that in 1994 there were 17744 examples and in 2011 there are 67????????

Sounds about right, the Ital was only about 10 to 14 years old in 1994, just about to hit the dramatic slide into oblivion, and a hell of a slide it was!

I actually remember one of the ads for it: "Style. Hard to define, but easy to recognise"

"Beauty with brains behind it" was another. The ad had a Marina in the foreground and sheep in the background. It was changed soon after it was released when the 'mistake' was pointed out and the sheep were edited out.

Very nippy the buggers are too in 1.8l form

I actually don't think the Marina was a bad looking car. It certainly was contemporary of anything else around at the time anyway.
