Anybody know what the current ZV numbers are up at?

I'm bringing an MG in from the UK in the next week or so. From what I read, the ZV numbers depend on what county you're in?

I can register in either Dublin or Meath and just wondering if anyone knew what the recent Dublin numbers were at.

I guess its a bit better having ZV and a shorter number (or does it make any difference at all really?)? Thought it might with the red and white raised number plates?

BTW, anyone ever have any hassle of the cops for using red/black plates instead of black silver?

Many thanks in advance for any comments,

    BF

Dublin ZVs are now up around about ZV 9800, it's the last remaining county with 4 digits, everywhere else have 5 digits now.
Macplaxton will give you the low down on registration plate law. I dont think any cop will give you grief about a plate once it's not illegible.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. In fact you most kindly replied to me a few years ago when I was enquiring about an old family MG. I gave up the search for that one and said I would hold on until the right one came along which it did. 1981 MGB GT LE, one of the last production MGs. 27k miles! Deal done and hoping to take the ferry in a week or so or at least in time for a spin to Terenure.

That the Dublin numbers are in four digits seems odd? One would have thought that they would be the first to go to five numbers but perhaps I don't understand the numbering convention?

In your opinion is it a waste of money going for the old style raised black on red plates and then doing a "ZV9 123" type plate? Or just bad taste! ; )

Dublin have four digits still because they were allocated the remaining numbers of the old system that were unused, they will cross over the 10.000 mark and upwards as time goes on.
If you get a four digit plate a raised letter plate would look perfectly fine, it would look alright on a five digit too, just the spacings might be a little cramped.
If you get a four digit plate space it ZV 1234 not ZV1 234. Silver on black raised letter (Ace plates) might look better than black on red IMO?

Black on red/Black on white is the official plate from jan 73 to dec 86.
I dont think you should have any trouble.

    Never, in either car.

Here some links to old posts about the regs:

    HERE, HERE and HERE.

Also some suppliers noted in this thread HERE

    Hope this helps.
