Mercedes 230 Saloon Fuel Problem

I have a slight fuel problem with a 1978 Mercedes 230 saloon. Its a car that was sitting in a barn for about 16 years and finally got it started last night. The car has an automatic choke and is drawing up fuel but it alot of it is flowing back into the air box. Anyone got idea what might be causing this? Cheers

You probably mean Lichtenberg. I have no old Mercedes, but if I did, I'd bring it to him :)

sounds simply that the float in the carb is stuck , works just like a toilet cistern so you could fix this yourself, after you take the top off the carb bowl

+1 on this, After 16 years any old petrol in the carb has probably gummed up and jammed the float or the needle valve to shut off the petrol flow, Its a Stromberg carb in the 230 which is very simple to work on, get a proper repair kit for it, strip it and clean it.

Mc Namaras should be able to get you the repair kit for it, and it'd be to harm to replace the rubber diaphragm as well if its not in the kit.
