I'm a student who also works so will qualify for the BTW scheme.

I haven't got much cash to spend but these 2 bikes seem to be the ones that are the best value - the Trek 7.0FX and the 7.1FX. Took both for a test and both seemed fine. The 7.1 is 50quid more expensive than the 7.0 and being a student that is only going to be cycling 12miles a day, it it worth the extra 50quid? Heres the specs:

Or should I go all out and pay the bit extra and get this Felt - which has recently been reduced by 200quid? Cant find any proper reviews on it.

I don't really understand what's better spec wise and would appreciate any guidance on which out of all these 3 bikes is the best value for money?

They are 3 very respectable bikes.

The Felt has the advantage of disc brakes, which will perform better in the wet - a great luxury, but not a 'must have'. It also has an internal hub gear, which should be almost maintenance free, for the first couple of years anyway...

Just realised the Felt only has 3 gears, which is fine for city center riding but would be limiting on cycles that include hills...

    Thanks for the reply.

I dont know much about bikes and was wondering was the Felt a cheapo type make and was i better of sticking to Trek who are one of the best makes. 3 gears is a bit crap but in fairness it shouldnt make that much of a difference to me, although there is a hill on my route.

Id go with the Trek 7.1

if you doing the cycle to work scheme, the difference between the 7.0 and the 7.1 will only be about 20euro - so its worth that for the better components.

The trek is well know to be a good solid bike, hundreds of satisifed revews across the internet so you cant go wrong with that. Dont know much about the Felt.

I picked up the 7.2FX for around 500 in Staggs Lucan (google them) on the B2W scheme, very happy with it and would recommend them. Took it to Carlow & back last Friday :)

I've a 7.1 and it's fairly bulletproof. Couldn't fault it. I have it 4 years or so and it's never given a moment's trouble despite heaps of abuse.

Whatever the number if it says "Trek", you can't go wrong :)
