    Hi,
I received a driving ban for being over the limit earlier this year, nobody was hurt but I am deeply embarrassed by the whole thing and will not be doing it ever again. So I started the ban 2 weeks ago tomorrow and I am finding it so hard, its like my right arm has been cut off. Im looking to hear from people who have in the past been banned or are currently on a ban, to hear how you coped/are coping. I am very low because of it and would appreciate any tips on how you coped.
    thanks in advance
    B

Moved from N&F. I'm interpreting this as more appropriate to PI than motors.

I have been banned myself since last september and like yourself will never do it again and my commute has gone from 40 mins to 1hour and 45 mins...

To be honest there has been a few positives from the whole feck up...Saving money on petrol insurence tax etc, doing a lot more reading/studying on the train and have drasitcally had to re-think my attitude towards drink which in turn Ive been having a better time while on nites out....which may be hard to believe for some.

The lack of car you get used to...Its not always you have had one so you just have to readopt it takes time but you will get used to it...
After a few months you wont even think about it..believe me.

Ah your just anxious to what will happen...that will pass...i was in the same rut as you believe me...just do your time, keep your nose and dont look back...and make sure you dont end up like the muppets in court you probably seen with their 4th ban who just knocked down a granny after a drunken rampage.

Could you apply for the Bike to Work scheme with your employer? If you buy all the bike gear you need at the same time I think its all covered. Get fitter in the process =win win.

Its a matter of changing your routine. My car is off the road for 3 months now and I have been bussing it. It was awkward at first, especially when my routine was to swing into the supermarket on the way home to get the dinner, now I pick it up in town, I have a foldaway bag in my handbag that I use, but if you bike it you will probably need a backpack anyway.

I kinda like the way I can listen to the radio on the commute and zone out a bit until my stop.

Hope the two years fly for ya :)
