    Office Computer System

    Hi Guys,

    Need some help here.
We have six computers in the office all running xp. We need a main server for accounts that will backup on the time.

What is the best system for this?

    Hi Defib,

It really is one of those "How long is a piece of string questions"

First off you will need to figure out what exactly you are looking to back up, e.g. is it flat file, database etc

A good tip would be to speak with your accounts package vendor and see what the package supports in terms of backup. This is important as you could waste lots of money, time and effort to find out that your support contract may be invalid. Also check with them to see if any further licensing is applicable for the package software.

I would also suggest that while a server setup for backup reasons is prudent, you must also consider disk failure and/or the possibility of the server getting damaged, hence a backup for offsite such as tape or disk should also be in your plans.

It would be incorrect of me to advise you any further until you have exact requirements.

Start by calling your accounts package vendor, and go from there ;)
