Shanghai - hotel recommendation?

I'm stopping off in Shanghai next month on my way back from a visit to Ireland. We're only there for 24 hours so we're looking for a hotel that is decent enough but most importantly is central so we can walk around in the few hours we have and have a look around/have dinner/look in the markets etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm doing some research on what district is the best place to stay, but I'm really not sure!

Anywhere along the Bund is central and easy to reach from the airport by either metro or maglev+metro. We stayed in the Panaroma Hotel on the Bund and found it to be decent albeit at the end of the Bund, not smack-on in the middle of it.

If you can make yourself get up early enough, go to the Bund around 5am. There will be old people flying kites there and you will be able to witness the sun rising over Pudong.
