Range Rover glow plugs (A lot of pictures)

My Range Rover P38 became very hard to start when cold or left sitting for a day.
I decided the easiest thing to try was the glow plugs.
I took some pictures as I did the job, I know these models aren't around much, but it may help someone.
I won't know if this will fix the starting issue untill tommorrow, finger crossed, however only 2 of the old ones worked.

I also came across an after market electronics box, which I removed.
This has made the vehicle much easier to drive, as before the auto box would bog down, and the power came in huge surges.
If I was going up a hill, the auto box would not change down untill my foot was mashed into the carpet, then there would be an explosion of power as it changed down, not good. I don't know if the add on box was faulty, or it just didn't work well with the gearbox. Power delivery is now much smoother, and the auto box seems to be working in harmony with the engine.

Excellent write up and pics, thanks for that.

You discovered that many add on tuning boxes are a pile of poo, they work by messing up the signals to the ecu or fooling the injectors in to dumping more fuel in. A proper re-map is the only way to go.

    Well thank god.:)
It started on the money this morning, no large amounts sweat wondering will it start before the battery dies.
It's funny about the add on box.
With it removed the engine is running at a lot less boost, around 10 PSI rathar than the surging up and down to 20 PSI.
Less boost must mean less fuel surley, I will do some figures.
The car is definitly a little slower, and the surge of power is gone, now it's just a nice smooth power up, with the boost rising in unison, up to about 15 PSI.
This has to be easier on the engine, Rather than the boost surging up and down to 20 PSI.

I can only guess the box adds more fuel, when you put your foot down, more fuel is shoveled in, which gives more boost, which takes more fuel, then at 20 PSI the relief valve opens. This dumps the boost, but as you still have your foot down the cycle starts again.

Anyway this is the first spanner this yoke threw at me, lets hope the next one is so easy fixed.:pac:
