    Hi,

I have been drinking alot of milk and eating alot of eggs (around 20 a week) for the past few months. Its helped me weight gain but unfortunately my stomach has put on fat too.

What's your thinking on these foods? Do you use them, or do you get your protein from better quality sources (lean meats, fish, etc).

I dont separate out egg whites, I just eat the whole thing. Also I drink full fat milk and am not sure if that is right either !

I did GOMAD - gallon of milk a day over 2 months and put on 20lbs. obviously i put some fat on as well but that is not a problem - its not that hard to lose fat after all. Eggs and milk are a very good source of protein, and most of all they are cheap. I usually eat around 4 eggs with my breakfast, then meat on my lunch/dinner and drink 2 liters of milk a day.

Don't worry about the fat too much, if you reduce your caloric intake and do some HIT or long duration cardio you will lose it

Eggs and milk definitely have their place, but you should also include other protein sources. Beef not only have lots of iron, it also is great for boosting testosterone, essential for muscle gain.

Are you lifting hard? What is your workout routine like?

Thats cool about beef. Must get more of it.

Im lifting pretty hard - squats, chin ups, all that kind of stuff.

It's tough to decipher all the information out there. When I was doing 2-3km runs 2 years ago I was leaner. Now I read that cardio is bad, creates cortisol release which is counter productive when trying to build muscle and HIIT should be done instead !

I would have the motivation to do weights 4 times a week and do some HIIT as well. But I have had people say to me that this over training and would create cortisol. And the old adage "Less is more" is thrown at me :)

So my point is that it's difficult to push yourself at 7am doing sprints when you have doubts in your mind if it's even the right thing to be doing. And there is alot of conflicting info out there. I suppose that's life ! :pac:

Did you do GOMAD with full fat milk? That's what I started drinking, and lower fat milk tastes like water to me now.

Also do you just eat the whole egg, or is it better to separate out the white?

    Thanks

Full fat all the way baby!! i had exactly the same experiences with low fat - it tastes just like water. Also i dont separate egg yolks from whites, eat it whole. you can separate it if you want i guess, but there is a lot of good fats in yolks, and good fats = more testosterone produced, or so they say, and more testosterone = more muscle.

    What is GOMAD?

I don't ever separate eggs unless it's for making ice-cream.

Cardio is not bad, who told you that? Think of it is heavy lifting for your heart and lungs. Endless cardio, to the exclusion of other exercise, is detrimental to muscle gain, but most people could do with more cardio, not less.

I reckon that lifting weights every second day is fine, which is 3-4 times a week.

Cortisol is not that big an issue, I'd be more worried about getting the calorie and workout level right.

GOMAD - gallon of milk a day. Basically you drink 4 litres of milk a day to put some weight on. Works like a charm, with heavy compound exercises i put on 20lbs, with only 2% increase in body fat in two months, with no supplements at all. I was getting weird looks and gear related questions all the time in the gym

the excess far is a result of a surplus of calories rather than too much of a particular food. milk and eggs have their place but drinking milk (along with the calories, carbs and fats it contains) just for protein isnt necessarily the best strategy. lean white meats and fish pack a greater protein punch, just think how much milk you would have to consume to get 30g of protein, the ammount you can get from a large tin of tuna.

How much milk would you need to drink for 30g of protein?
