Is what I found upon enquiring about the 4wd diesel model.

What are the boardsies view on this model?

Is it worth joining the queue.

And... more for Salesmen.... if a car is in high demand do people still haggle... and does it work??

If it counts Clarkson praised it (again if it counts :))
It is a real multi purpose vehicle to be fair, maybe not the most attractive.
Dealerships will give pittins off these if theirs a waiting list, possibly €500-€800 i'd imagine.

if you do go ahead and order, dont leave too much of a deposit and if possible pay by credit card(if they let you) as there plenty of dealers going down the tubes and youll be last in line

Skoda themselves would honour any order even if the dealer went belly-up wouldnt they?

My nearest dealer (Aughrim Motors) went belly-up.
Hopefully the same wouldnt happen to the Dublin ones.

Martin Barrett in Waterford may be worth a call, good reputable dealer.

The reason there is a huge waiting time for them is not because there is a big demand for them, but rather Skoda didn't expect to sell as many cars this year so quickly.

They only put their hands up for a small number of production slots, which are all now long used.

Because Ireland is a relatively small market, the factories aren't too bothered about giving more slots.

I figured so, because their sales numbers aren't stellar for the Yeti
Its still well out-sold by the octavia & Superb.

I guess they just didnt anticipate what landing a helicopter on the roof of one would do to sales!

My parents have one, not my cup of tea but very nice to drive and they love it, it's done around 30k kms at this stage with no issues. Their dealer (Harry Murphy in Newport, who I'd recommend btw) told them the same thing last year, that they just weren't expecting to sell many of them.

Be careful with some of the colours, they look ok in the brochure but are horrible in the flesh, I'm thinking specifically of the brown and the wine.

I know I'm leaving myself open for a slagging for asking this, but is there much room in the boot? I have heard that they are a relatively small car when it comes to capacity?

Yep, that must be a pretty strong selling point for some people!:D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Think I'd prefer the ford kuga way way better looking, and still very capable, we had one up here during the snow and it had no problems with hills on all seasons..

Hadn't heard about Aughrim Motors but I suppose it was inevitable given their location - when did they close?

How Kelly's is still open is beyond me also!

Well they still exist but they arent a skoda dealer anymore.
    Just used cars.

Word around the camp-fire was that Skoda demanded a larger much more expensive showroom to promote their brand, but when Aughrim refused Skoda pulled the franchise.
I'm unsure if its true though.

I'd well believe it, they did the same with Phoenix Motors in Dublin, two of the first Skoda dealers in the country who probably did the most in promoting the brand in Ireland and being pressured to provide big expensive shiny showrooms for what is still a good "value" brand is ridiculous.
Back on topic, Yeti is a damn fine motor and afaik the waiting lists in the UK are even longer!

Its an EU law that was brought in IIRC , they had to meet these standards which were set during the boom years! nothing to do with Skoda.

    EU law?? link please.

AFAIK, there is an ongoing court case between Phoenix Motors and Skoda re loss of franchise, I don't recall Phoenix taking the EU to court re same?

Maybe so but that was the excuse I was given as to why dealers are being forced to upgrade their showrooms, the one in question was John Linnane motors in wicklow. One of the sales men mentioned it.. putting on the poor mouth maybe.

I was half-tempted to go for one of these but I wasn't sure if it would have a good re-sale value + whether Skoda would still be making Yeti's in 5 years time.

Thats now a slight concern too.
They have been hevily advertising the Yeti on the Irish/UK tv markets, so mabey its here to stay. (hopefull)

I was speaking to another dealer today who echoed what was previously posted by a poster, that its not demand causing the delau, its just they aren't making many.

They said Skoda may increase production volumes in 2012 to reduce the lead time, but for now they are more or less being made to order.

I can just see an EU summit to decide which marble tiles are to be used in the coffee dock.;)
