iTunes declining my visa debit card

I just got an iPad and can't download apps (even free ones) because my card is being declined (really must lodge some cash!) It still works fine on my iPhone. Is there any way around this?

Restart the iPad and try signing out of the App Store and then signing back in using the Account button at the bottom of the Featured screen. You should be using the same Apple ID that you use on your iPhone.
