lads have been fixing tines etc on haybob on the off chance we get a bit of hay weather, anyway she is noising badly on the right hand side if you are standing behind it, the side the driveshaft connects to, its a kinda creaking noise, I imgine its the gears. does anyone know is there much to go wrong down there , I was thinking of letting down the wheel and dropping the reel and taking a look, would you see the gears when the reel is off, the reel itself and the rest of the haybob is in good shape, not bent or anything, any ideas what might be wrong or whats the best thing to do?
by the way is boards fierce slow today or is it just me

It sounds like the bearing is gone. Its a simple enough job to repair it. You need to let down the wheel shaft and take it out. Loosen the 4 nuts that are up underneath the reel (Holding it onto the main cog wheel). remove the reel. Loosen the large nut on the top - its the nut that goes around the wheel shaft. A little bit of prizing will loosen the whole lot and you will find that the interior bearing is in bits and spewed all over the cog wheel - that's what's making the noise as you turn the reel.

(is it a pz with wide or narrow wheels? Above are instructions for a narrow wheel - but the wide wheel should be very similar also. )

ok dropped it down a bit this evening, no sign of any bearings, large cog wheel looks ok, i did notice there seems to be a bit of play in the smaller cog wheel that leads to the other reel whether thats it or not, also the bearing just behind where the driveshaft connects doesnt look great. however when i turn on pto with reel dropped there is no noise so maybe its that smaller cog wheel which would be a bigger issue
