Different sized spare tyre

I'm off to Europe for a holiday in my Ford Galaxy, problem is the Galaxy doesn't have a spare tyre, just a tub of goo in case of puncture. I have a second car and was thinking of bringing the spare tyre as a back up, the problem is the tyre sizes are slightly different, the Galaxy tyres are 215/60/16 and the spare is 225/55/16. In the case of a puncture I only plan on using the spare to get the nearest garage, would the slight tyre difference make any difference to handling?

Are you sure the wheel fits?

The handling shouldn't be effected tbh but you are supposed to have matching tyres across an axle so not a great idea having a misfit as a spare, especially abroad.

It will be fine to use for a short journey in an emergency. Just make sure the stud patterns match so that it will actually fit on the Galaxy.

Cheers, any ideas how much a spare wheel would cost?

Check your local scrappie for a spare.

Not much between them to worry about to be honest. After all the spare is an emergency wheel.
My car has 17's but came with a 16" spare.

My wifes C-Max was the same, came with a tub of goo and a compressor where the spare should be. A spacesaver wheel and tyre was not very expensive, the local Ford dealer supplied it with a jack and the foam inserts to stop it all rattling around for about Eur100.

Don't forget the jack and wheelbrace ;)

They're both R16 so I'd say you'll be ok, but as suggested make sure it'll fit the hub.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Your spare will be 1cm smaller in diameter, which is nothing.
You can easily (and legally) use it as a spare wheel all over Europe.

Just make sure that the wheel actually fits your car.
What car are you taking it off?

just remember if using a differnt size wheel, it should only be used for as short a journey as possible..... especially on the drive axle

Size difference here is very little.
You will get a bigger different in diameter putting the same tyre sizes, but new on one side, and worn on the other side.
