Hi, we are getting married in NY 2012 and are considering the River Cafe for ceremony and meal. Has anyone had their wedding there or been to the restaurant? What was your experience? What to look out for, if anything?

If anyone has any other recommendations for NY wedding venue it would be greatly appreciated as we are unable to visit NY beforehand and are relying on web reviews mostly.

    Also looking for photographer recommendations.

    Regards,
    Ciaran

I was actually there last August just before proposing. Nice spot. Very scenic at night with the NY skyline.

I didn't like the facts that they couldn't reserve seats right next to he window, and i hated their dinner jacket policy but that's just me.

Service and food was excellent, and think they had nice gardens in the front too, so for a wedding that could be nice.

    Best of luck.

Like boink, I haven't been to a wedding there, but have been there for dinner.

Food and service are excellent and the views at night are suberb. You don't need to wear a dinner jacket, just a jacket and shirt will do (what they call a sports jacket). I wore a suit with no tie, there were men there in chinos and navy blazers (looked like they walked out of a Hilfiger photoshoot), so it's not a stuffy dress policy. No harm to dress up if you're going somewhere nice! :)

It's a big leap, tbh, booking a wedding with no prior visits. You're missing out on tastings and the opportunity to get reassurance ahead of the big day. Is there anyone you know and trust in NYC who could check out the places for you?
