    Hi all,

How long would it take for a girl to decide on a wedding ring?

Going on holidays in few months to New York and thinking of popping the question. Would like to get ring while there. It will be a surprise and don't think girlfriend is expecting it. I also don't think she looks at rings much. So how long would it take for her decide on a ring, would 2 days from when i pop the question be enough for her to decide on ring so we can buy it there and take it home with us?

    All advice greatful.

Hi there OP, tLL doesn't do polls on women's opinions - this is the forum for all things wedding related.

hi OP, without being glib here you're asking if all women have a certain in-built time frame on making decisions.... we're all quite different you know ;)

you should have more of a clue about how your OH makes decisions like this than strangers on the internet! have you noticed her buying jewellery for herself in the past? what's she like when she's out shopping? engagement rings are a very very personal thing to us girls - some will have the perfect ring in their head for years, some won't care as long as there's diamonds in it, some don't like diamonds, some [like me] might have something in their mind but when they go to try it on will find that it doesn't suit their hand, some will try on a few and find the one, others will try on a few hundred before they find it.

i'm not trying to be smart here, just saying that you can't pre-empt these things. ask her once you pop the Q if she has anything in mind, bring her to a few places within your budget, and let it go from there. and good luck! :)

    It really depends.
I picked my ring out on the first day i went looking because i found one i loved. Other friends of mine have taken months to find one that suits them and others have got theirs made.

Also, its normal that the ring might not be available in the shop in the correct size and would need to be ordered/made. This can take a few weeks.
