    Hi All,

Iv been talked into doing a sponsored cycle in Sept, roughly 100 miles, and now I need a bike to start training !!

Anyways, I havent a notion about bikes, so I would really appreciate some advice as to what kind of bike I should go for......

    Thanks in advance!

PS: Can anyone recommend a good bike shop in the Kilkenny area?

I'm not very familiar with the bike shop scene in Kilkenny but if you could suggest an upper limit on the spend I could post up a few suggestions of what'd be available to you on the internet.

tks a mil lemag...i think my very max would be 700e, but i really dont even want to spend that amount, because im only doing this for a charity, I know i may get hooked, but incase i dont i dont want to go to mad! :o

€700 is an awkward price point. The spec on this is very good. It is over your budget but if you freely subscribe to their 'VIP Membership' this will automatically bring it down by 10% to £675. After adding postage (to your door) of £35 that'll bring it to £710 which is about €790 with the current exchange rate. Well worth it IMO. A similarly spec bike will cost upwards of €1100 in a bricks and mortar bike shop.

Would you be able to buy it on the bike to work scheme,if your employed theres no reason why you couldnt,it would save you a good chunk of money and depending on your employer you could probably spread the cost over twelve months.

Kilkenny cycles on Michael St. would be your best bet. I think the Sensa bikes in there are good value. There's also Walls on Maudlin St. but I don't think they carry as much stock.

Have you looked into the cycle to work scheme? IMO youd be mental to blow e700 on a bike to do a 100 mile cycle.

You will get something decent enough for under the e500 mark thats suitable for your needs.
