Hi all, after a trip to Ikea and the purchase of frames ive decided to run off a couple of prints and ive got a couple of questions. First off im trying to get a print done at (i think) 12x16 inches. But only found one online place that does that size.(photobox i think).anybody know of any other good places to get a couple of prints done?
Also Im going to reprocess specifically for print using lightroom/PS. I presume i set the colourspace to be CMYK. Any other good tips to get the most out of a print?

    cheers all :D

I not sure of anywhere in Ireland but you could try DS Colour labs in Manchester, where you can get a 16x12 done for a fraction of most other places.

As for your colour space, I'd leave it wth sRGB if you are using a calibrated monitor but if not you can download colour profiles from DSCL's website.

    nooooo dont use cmyk

colourspace should be either srgb or adobe rgb depending on where its going

    as for size

lots of places will now do 18*12 as its a standard size out of most digital cameras

i can print any size really as i print on rolls

be careful that you image is actually 16*12 and not 18*12

ah cool thanks lads! I know nowt about preparing a shot for print. roughly how much would a handful of 12x18s be stcstc?
should i just get the image looking right on screen(kinda calibrated..kinda)? or do i need to lighten a little extra etc?

there is a pricelist on website

in terms of preparing for print, my monitors a pretty close to what you get out of printers

if you have your screen calibrated you should get pretty close to it

Can you explain this a little further, please.
How is it best to judge what size I want to get printed?
I will want 8 x 12s or is it 12 x 8 or does it depend on orientation of image whether I shot in portrait or landscape.

I will need some done in next few weeks. Thanks

12*8 and 8*12 are the same just orientation is different

out of most (NOTE i said Most) digital cameras you will get images that in shape will be 12*8, 15*10, 18*12 (these are all the same shape)

older more tradition sizes were 10*8, 16*12 etc

to get one of you digital images at 16*12 you have to get it to 18*12 then chop 2 inches off it

Thanks for that. This might explain how I lose some of my photos when I get them printed. More care when composing on a crop body? Canon 40d usually with Sigma 17 - 70 f2.8

the other reason you loose a little maybe is some of the mini lab type printers print borderless, and to make sure the whole page is filled they expand the image slightly bigger than the page

I know you're in Dublin but it would probably be worth a trip to Portlaoise to get some done! Bryan Fergus (Fujifilm) in portlaoise has done all my printing for me and I absolutely know that I wouldn't have had any sales without him. I have no idea how he compares pricewise but he did so much to educate me on setting my photos up for printing, cropping, the merits of shooting in different ratios, colour adjustments and photoshop settings. I am a complete rank amateur but he made a lot of the shots look really good. He is an amazingly nice guy so it's nice to have an opportunity to pay him back for all the times I followed him around the shop saying, "Wait, I have another question!" I'm surprised he never hid behind the counter!
