I hate French. I was alright, but then I decided not to keep it on, so I now know nothing.

Exact same thing that happened to me.
Such a swot in French for the first year. Then.... Became way to much effort :P
Keeping up on the tenses and all was too much :(

It says something very worrying that it took ye an hour to cop it on :D

Good to know I'm in the same boat as other people here. I just haven't been bothered with French over the last few months, and it is taking it's toll.
I don't have a clue about the conditional tense, and I have a feeling it may come up.
It's good that we have a day to study for it, given that you don't do Business, but with History looming on the same day, maybe an all nighter or getting up at 6am is due.

The conditional tense is pretty basic, although it involves having a decent knowledge of other tenses. To know it, you only need to know the future stem of the verb and the imparfait ending. For example, I'll use the regular verb finir (to finish)

    I finish - Je finis
I will finish - Je finirai (finir is the future stem)
I used to finish - Je finissais (ais is the imparfait ending)
I would finish - Je finirais (future stem + imparfait ending)

    :)

French is the subject I worked the most at after my disappointing mock result, so fingers crossed I do well!

Tenses don't "come up" in French. you may be asked to say you would do something in a letter but another tense would suffice.

Yeah that's what I meant to say, that it would come up as one of the points in the letter.

@Slow Show Thanks! I'll have a look over that tomorrow.

I think we could do without the future tense altogether.

That was a joke. Props if you get it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 68 ✭✭ohdechertig

We've never even done the conditional tense. :(

I'm sort of worried about French, as the listening comp. may be a complete disaster!

I'm sooo worried about this, and I hate that it's on on the same day as history! Two subjects I need to cram for! :< I wish I could predict what was coming up in the letter and the note!
Anyone want to post some lovely useful phrases? :)

My favourite subject by far. Our teacher is the definition of legend, jokes when it's appropriate, but is always able for the work involved too.

I'm hoping to get a really high grade, as I hope to become a lecturer/teacher in it some day, not that JC French will be a great addition to a CV!

I'm aiming for a B in this. It's easy enough, all I have to do is go over a few letters then I'm sorted. :D

I thought history was on in the morning not French..?!

    EDIT: ****.

    Agreed. :(

My night has consisted in cramming the entire History course, and trying to learn off French vocab. All I can remember is monkey - singe. :(

Je ne peux pas étudier le soir avant des examens, je le deteste. :(

Parlez francais! Si nous bavardons en francais, nous apprenons un peu francais. Du coup, nous étudions!

(Et non, je n'utilise google traduction, I'm using hideously basic French! :p)

From looking at past papers, note can come up twice in a row.

I don't understand why no one wants the note to come up, it's ridiculously short and easy!

Anywho, listening to this on repeat counts as study:

One of my friends from a different school told me that they were preparing for a formal letter, and that it's possible that an informal letter won't come up at all this year.
We haven't even touched on formal letters.
I am excreting quite a lot of feces at the moment.

Well... that will get you an A! That's not basic to me... I fail at French! :o

I'm throwing in "J'ai du pain sur la planche" somewhere in my letter to make me look smart. Stole it from the Leaving Cert forum. :pac:

you should really talk to 5th years like me i left after an hour in higher level and got a B:L Ce n'est pas un examen difficile si vous savez à quoi s'attendre.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 AllisonB

J'espère obtenir des bonnes notes aprés mes examens parce que l'examen Francais n'était pas trop difficile. Les compréhsions était facile et la lettre assez facile et le compréhension écouter très facile. Je n'utilise pas Google! Je pense que j'ai écrit quelque mots faux.

Don't know if this is great french..but ah well.

does anyone know how many marks are deducted from letter for spelling or getting the meaning mixed up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭Conchir

That went really well, I reckon I got an A. I'd say I got close to full marks in the listening and my letter was quite the awesome.

Very easy, much easier than the past few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭spirit_77

Hoping to scrape a B did rubbish on the the letter and postcard couldnt think of any verbs :L

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭rorrissey

The listening and the reading was SO easy. I'm pretty sure I got most of those two sections right. But the rest was pretty awfully. I basically bull****ted through the note and the letter completely. Tenses all over the gaf! :pac:
