Jaysus what a result. When was the last time carlow and wexford met in a Leinster football semi final?

I laughed quite hard when I heard the result. :)

Fair play to Wexford and Carlow but it's gonna be another woefully one-sided Leinster Final if either of them have to face the Dubs.

You do remember the game between wexford and dublin last year when dublin should have been beaten? Well wexford are playing better than that this year and are a lot fitter so thats a fairly ridiculous comment. The winners of carlow vs wexford will more than put it up to dublin.

Well done Carlow,a great result for them.

If is the word! It could easily be Kildare they face.

Hard say it will be one sided after improvement Wexford have been making. U21 are leinster champs, so new players coming along and great performance yesterday.

    Well done Carlow!

Sorry, I gotta disagree with this.Wexford look certain to walk it to the Leinster Final now.No disrespect to Carlow but the likelihood of pulling off another upset against Wexford is slim and in any case there'd be a gulf in class between Dublin and Carlow.

While Wexford are a division 2/3 team, they have been underperforming when it comes to the league for some time now.

Equally Kildare would probably have enough

Well fair enough but I wouldnt write Carlow off completely after that result. If they are good enough to beat Louth they cant be to bad. I would agree after watching Wexford yesterday that they will probably be to hot to handle in the forward division for Carlow.

    I do remember that game.

I also remember that Dublin don't generally lose Leinster Finals and they made bits of Wexford in the '08 decider.

Was probably the most one-sided Leinster Final ever.

Yes but I do remember that it was 10 points to 9 at half time and dublin pushed on from there in the second half. I admit that the dubs are hard to beat when the crowd gets behind them but this Wexford team is certainly more free-scoring than in 2008. I reckon Kildare will get to the final anyway before you hand the trophy to Dublin. ;)

Ye I think leave the leinster final discussion for another day. Nobody is there yet.

Let Carlow fans have their time in the sun on this thread. Its been a long time coming!

Personally, i'd love to see a Kildare v Wexford final as I think it would be a savage contest between 2 free flowing teams.

I'd just fear for Wexford or Carlow against the Dubs in a Final.

But as another poster has said, should leave the Final discussion for another few weeks as nothing is decided yet.

I am a louth man myself but cant fault the result today, the better team won.
Best of luck to Carlow in the semi final.

I'll tell you something- Brendan Murphy from Carlow is absolutely brilliant. A really good footballer, probably one of the best in the country.

Gotta love the GAA - results like todays keeps the spirit alive in all the 'underdog' counties!!

    Was down at the game.

Well done to Carlow - better team over the 70 minutes and thoroughly deserved the victory. Weathered the 2nd half Louth storm and finished the stronger of the two. A few great points kicked and some great place kicking too.

Hate to mention the Ref but he was probably the worst I've seen at this level - totally inconsistent with his decisions and dug a hole for himself by handing out yellow cards like confetti - as bad for one team as he was for the other.

Best of luck to Carlow in the semi - think you'll have quite a few counties shouting for ye!

Brilliant brilliant result for Carlow - really delighted for them. And to score the last 4 points - wonderful. Was listening to the game on the way home from Ross game in Carrick and when Louth went 3 up and they switched away we were praying for last minute goal - but when they went back and Carlow had scored two points !!! it made for some dangerous driving in the rain:):)

The essence of Championship football. And a great reason to shut up people who suggest a two tiered championship etc or talk about the early rounds being boring:rolleyes:

They will have their work cut out against an impressive Wexford but I am sure that won't worry anyone in Carlow tonight:):)

Will you be laughing after the first round Qualifiers?

As a long suffering Carlow fan, today for us was like winning an All Ireland for us.
The celebrations on the pitch with the team and the very few of us loyal supporters who bothered to turn up was amazing. Saw tears shed by a lot of the older supporters, and can't blame them.
I have never seen us in a Leinster semi in my lifetime, and the way we won that game today put us thru every emotion possible.

From a great 1st half display, to fall apart early in 2nd half and go from 8-4 up to 12-9 behind half way thru 2nd half, it looked like it was same old crappy Carlow story. All the old mistakes were happening.
But Brendan Murphys sideline kick, just saw it there again on Sunday Game but doesn't do justice to how good it was, lifted the team. And we took over last 10 mins and pulled it back with quality scores. Even the winner in injury time was well worked and Murphy slotted it over. He has to be one of the best players in the country and with him and Walsh, and also Foley around the middle we will always win a lot of ball there.

Didn't give us a chance today as my prediction in the pools thread shows, but never as happy to be so wrong. This win was exactly what Carlow football needed and best part is most of todays team are very young. Most of these lads are used to winning at minor and u21 level and they are carrying this through to senior now.

So happy tonight, raging i've work tomorrow and had to leave celebrations so early!

I would hope so. Why do you ask?
Brendan Murphys point from the sideline a full 60 yards out was absolutely magical. Maurice Fitzgerald stuff. It'll be great to see carlow in Croke Park. Can't see them beating Wexford though.

Fair play to ye. An sparsely populated yet ambitious county who are trying to promote both codes and i hope ye can stick with the hurling too because there is potential there.
A few lads id speak to around Carlow are i suppose pessimistic to say the least about their development as a GAA county and then you'd meet the few ignoramus people who jump on the Kilkenny bandwagon instead of following their own county and showing appreciation for the lads who bust a gut training for them.
There is good loyal supporters out there like steveCw and there is a few that wear the Carlow Jerseys around the IT who have got their reward tonight and long may they enjoy it.

On another note is Daniel St Ledger anything to Sean the soccer player who has Carlow roots?

I know Meath played them in Croker in 2008. Don't think they've been there since.

This was a great result but I beating Wexford is a whole different thing. Wexford have ripped 2 teams apart so far and look really really good.

Can't see Carlow winning there but that said, they could have a qualifier run. I'll say it again Brendan Murphy is as good as any player in the country and they have a few other really good ones too- Cashin, Walsh and St. Ledger are players who have impressed me before.

well as pat spillane says (god knows i dont agree with him too often) every county has 15 as good as another it all comes down to belief and fitness,Wexford are no world beaters, nor are kildare or dublin,or cork or kerry etc,it all boils down to shear belief in ones ability and i give carlow a good chance, but i do think leinster winner and possibly all ireland will come from ourselves and dublin.

congrats to carlow from Wexford, a great win for ye. Carlow are wexfords bogey team, they have beaten us a few times in important games like a promotion match in the league a few years back.

If Kidlare beat dublin which is a big if and if wexford beat carlow and thats another big If, i fancy wexford for leinster. But Dublin are the team to beat in leinster.

All Ireland will had to munster though
