Custom Charges?

Hi, I'm wanting to buy some clothes off a website called Bodyline however I seen reviews about it saying that when the clothes arrived at their door they had to pay extra money for 'custom' charges, however some say they are lucky and did not get these charges. The clothes are from Japan.

    So heres my questions-
    What are custom charges?
And does everyone have to pay custom charges when they buy things online?
And if yes, how much do you have to pay? Is there a set rate?

Pardon me if I'm in the wrong forum.

    Hi,

I just typed the title of your post into the search engine here and found the following -

    http://www.boards.ie/search/?q=customs+charges

You may be liable to VAT and DUTY on any goods that originate outside the EU area.

Its the luck of the draw whether you get caught for customs. You have less of a chance of being caught if its been delivered by post, if its a courier you most likely will be stung:( €22 is the customs limit and you get charged the VAT rate plus a €5 charge if your parcel is caught. Not sure about duty though.

Generally you'd wanna add about 30% to the shipping and clothes price for customs.
