Skipping TY, I pretty much know what I want to do with my life so I just wanna get there now.

    I'm doing TY.

There is just sooo much outside of school I want to get done in the year, was thinking of trying the Gaisce award and me an a town councillor are also working on a project to get more money allocated to helping people with mental health issues.

I also want to develop my passion for photography more.

I plan on getting a head start on the leaving cert course too, I'll get a few books and start reading them. I want to do really well so better start now. I know people will say there is no need and think I'm weird but I don't care what anyone else thinks :pac: I don't want to be stressing through 6th year and be really prepared for the leaving.

Through the years I haven't really wanted to do TY but now after doing a few state exams I feel like I want to take a year to just take a break. It could come in handy. Guess it's a little late now. Oh well. :(

I'm doing TY. :) It's unreal in my school. You get to go to France, London.. Loads of places. My friends and I are hoping to go to Africa or India to do charity work as well so it should be a good year, looking forward to it! :)

I'm doing TY. The course is actually really good in our school; I'm considering doing An Gaisce, and taking more than the three weeks off for work experience, because (right now, anyway) there are so many places I'm interested in.

Also, I don't really want to jump from state exams into Fifth Year. Too much stress.

We do two weeks work experience one week in two different places.

TY in our school's pretty good, just the sporty parts I find hard to comply with haha

Transition Year is compulsory in my school. If it wasn't, I would still do it as we have a very good TY program.

Also, I need a year of doing nothing after the Junior Cert. It would be effort going straight into fifth year.

I might do that too! I already have two Leaving Cert Business books at home, so might just read through them. I don't know if I'll bother though. I probably won't.

I think it's admirable to work a bit through TY, and it shows good work ethic and ambition and such, but d'you not think it'd be a bit of a waste of time? Like, I remember when I was in First Year I read through a lot of the International Relations section of my History book, because I was a big History nerd, but pretty much all of that had faded from my memory by the time we actually did it in school. Unless it's a subject you're planning to take up outside of school, TY seems like a waste of time. Although it'd probably be good to work at a language, it's what I'd do if I were doing it. Theoretical subjects just seem a bit ehhh, you'll just end up being bored to tears after looking over the same thing countless times before the LC.

That's the one. I was planning on starting the Economics course next year. If I could have it all done by fifth year, then I could just go over it every so often until the Leaving Cert and it wouldn't take up all my time.

TY does seem like a waste of time, because, at the end of the day, you're going to want to get into college. All you do in it is projects and such. Why waste a year and loose your study skills? That's what happened to loads of my friends, who are doing the LC now. As for 'maturing' and stuff, that happens anyway gradually.

Anyway, that's my two cents ^.^

On the other hand, if you can do An Gaisce and get work experience, it looks awesome on your CV, next to your college degree. If you do 5th year instead, then you're basically limiting the stuff you can put on a CV (especially when you're looking for a job in college). Also, my school at least lets you start a language you've never done before and do it for the Leaving, rather than jumping straight into it it 5th Year.

So, yeah, TY is awesome :)

Also, we can start the Leaving Cert course in TY to take some of the pressure off in sixth year.

I'm doing the gaisce in 5th year plus lcvp which includes work experience. Delighted I don't have to spend an extra year in school :)

Oh, right, I didn't know there was a work experience thing in 5th year. Still, though, with TY there's less stress to it all. :)

I'm not doing TY. I think it's a waste of time. It gets you out of a study cycle(at least that's what teachers say). I also think that whatever you do in TY can be done more interestingly outside of school. I just didn't see the point, I want to get on with my life. I'm not a slacker or anything to do it.

    Many people = many opinions..

I'm just finished TY so onto 5th year! :) was defiantly one of the best decisions I've made, had an amazing year and I'm ready to go onto 5th year now! Although I think I've forgotten all my Irish but how bad!:L

Very true for a lot of people in our TY class but it really depends on the attitude you take going into it! If you decide to do nothing all year, you do see it as a waste but if anything I've become more academic by doing it. Im going to CTYI next week because of it! Don't think I'd have found out about it if I hadn't done TY because we had a couple of people come in and speak to us about it!

Hello, fellow CTYIzen! I presume it's your first year, then? Are you doing residential or commuting? :)
