Looking at the many shops and businesses which seem to have a year around sale,or now taking discounts or weekly deposits such is the bottom has fallen out of the market,i wonder can anyone remember prices from the boom, say like for what they paid for a big tv back in 2005/2006?..

Well known homewares shop in Wexford was having a re location sale (complete downsizing) a while back and I got a cushion with a cat on it for 8 Euro.

Original price on it 28 Euro, that has to be a celtic tiger price!

Friend of mine paid over €2,000 for a big telly.....thought he was the business

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Also, a bunch of scallys from the local pub were considering paying €16,000 each to buy a fcuking racehorse.

I was urging them on as best I could....probably what put them off in the end.

In a lot of places today there still is Celtic Tiger pricing!

But anyway I picked up a New safety 1st Travel Set Buggy for €150 in Limerick, its original price was €300!! Madness!

My parents paid €500 for a 42" Telly that was originally priced at €2000!
    Fella was goin into Liquidation.

Cant buy that in the shop,

I think a TV would be a bad example. Flat screen LCD or Plasma was still kinda new back then whereas now it's developed and every Tom, Dick and Abraham are making them.

For what you would have paid E2000 for back in the day would cost about E500 now.

Better example would be pints / Coffee / Eating out etc etc...

One thing I am sure of though is that Pink Wellys are cheaper !

Once had a pot of tea for one and a croissant. €16. I stupidly didn't check the price before ordering and had to pay it..

Well if you want Celtic Tiger prices check out places like Costa Coffee(moar liek costalot amirite?), 2 regular cinnamon coffees and 2 caramel shortcakes = 17.95 ????
    Also BB's!!

Now we tend to stick to smaller places e.g. The Daily Grind in Tralee, cheaper, better coffee and tea, better atmosphere and divine cakes and sandwiches!!

For food take a look at Domino's Pizza, KFC and others.

Celtic Tiger was a different economy and pricing structure. If you're actually interested check the economics forum.

I remember paying over E50 for a pizza, a wedgie, some stripping chickens and a few cans of White Lemonade.

Now it's ten quid for any pizza any size..

    mmmmmmm

    pizza :pac:

When I saw the bill I almost died. I'd expect a hand shandy with it for that price.

Exactly, technology is a bad example 10 year ago you would pay €2000 for a LCD tv now you would pay €2000 for a 3D tv, Moore's Law and all that craic!

Definitely almost 3 euro for a latte in the suburbs also, compared to just over 2 euro in Kensington London with a free croissant thrown in .

Exactly!! I remember my dad forking out well over 1000 pounds for a computer, first computer in the house. I think its ram was 166mb compared to 3 or GB of ram these days. Thats over €1500 in todays money which would buy you a very decent laptop..... and another and probably a nice 32" Tv aswell.
