Can anyone recommend a razor/blade that are reasonably priced/half decent? I am sick of buying the over priced Mach3 ones. Do boot/tesco do one that wont rip the face off you?

Have a read of the safety razor thread. A little time and effort into learning to shave traditionally will pay off both in terms of satisfaction, better shave and skin tone and money saved.

Here's a great article on learning to shave traditionally:

Boots (and I think Tesco) sell this razor

Great starting point without spending lots of money. Blades are very cheap, especially if you buy online.

Or you could learn a cutthroat/straight razor and never have to buy another blade.

I started out on the Wilkinson, years ago. glides well, but I hated the ends of the razor head, I much prefer something with less of a bulge and more of a squared off\well defined shape, for working under the nose.

If it suits you, great value. Nice heft to it, thanks to the weighted handle.

Tesco own brand blades are made by Personna. As with any razor blade, your mileage may vary. I rate them slightly better than a Derby. They're not that cheap any more, either. Price creep..

I didn't find Tesco's own brand cartridges (i.e. the Gillette mach 3 style ones) to be much good. They cut well enough and gave a shave more or less as smooth gillette, but they clogged up very quickly and were tough to clean out. I'd the same problem with another cheap brand of cartridge razors that they stock too.

Best bet is definitely the safety razors mentioned above.
