    Title says it all

Mine would probably be Rickie Fowlers just because of the sheer flexibility required for that golf swing, only problem is his back is going to be dommed, I find it hard to see him playing on tour into his thirties

    Rory McIlroy for me.

Fred Couples. Best, most consistant swing ever.

When I'm watching golf, I always admire how simple Luke Donald makes it look but I'm more drawn to players with rhythm like Couples, Duval... I could watch him hit long irons all day.

This is also fantastic, balance, follow through, hold the finish etc. (McIlroy @ Quail Hollow), helped by the framing of the (camera) shot, and the result :)

That clip is what i wish i could do everytime i have to hit an iron. To me the best swing
in modern golf. I have a lesson this mornin, wonder if the coach could get me doing that?
    ;)

    I like Justin Rose's swing.

    Nice one Licksy. Cheers!

Fred Couples followed by Rorys...I like Quiros swing just full of power.

Adam Scott is another I admire.

Tom Watson for me. Hasn't changed that much since I first saw him in the mid 70's.

+1 for the Big Easy, swing is pure silk and of great power. Remember getting a video of his about 15 years ago and trying to emulate his set up, if only. Always like to see him do well on tour but even when leading never seems to get much coverage.

Fred Couples' swing was what I aspired to when I was starting out, I even knew a guy who's now a pro in the Spawell who had a similar swing. Outside that, Ernie Els, Tiger, and of course Rory's, which is now my favourite swing. The way he follows through and holds it at the end - so balanced.

Ben Hogan. Its simplicity and the fact he is generally regarded as the best ball striker of all time.

Rory mcilroy text book. :-) Also Luke Donald its just so simple...

Luke Donald, and David Duval back when he was a good golfer.

Yeah Duval's a pure hacker now isn't he...

els for me too...never seems to really hit at it,just a smooth swing
unlike the deranged axe-mans swipe I have developed this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭mr.mickels

Hogans swing was mentioned, he generated serious clubhead speed for a small fella, Donalds swing is somewhat similar with a bit less power.
In Seve's pomp his swing was great to watch, Woosnam had a fabulous swing, a superb powerful ballstriker with a very simple swing.

I was never much of a fan of this guy but something really majestic about his swing and a likely contender for best driver and long iron player ever

    Freddy Couples - Sublime

Hard to beat Ernie Els swing, just goes to show you don't have to swing hard to hit it long.
Also Phil Mickelson's swing is just class when he doesn't try and absolutely kill the ball. So
it is a rare sight indeed.

Nick Faldo's swing had an enormous influence on me growing up.
When i first started to play, I tried to emulate his swing.

That's an interesting swing, very deceptive. If you focus on the lower half (the ball, his feet) you can see how deceptively quick he whips through the ball. Looking at the top half, his upper-body it seems effortless and a lot slower.

+1 on Freddie Couples. Poetry in Motion. Robert Karllson, a lovely slow rythmic swing for such a tall man.

Eamon Darcey..unique and fun to watch;)

Cant believe there has been no mention of Jeev Milkha Singh yet :p i could watch him swing all day

In fairness to him, you have to admire the way he has succeeded in golf with such a unique swing.

    1. Rory McIlroy 2. Luke Donald 3. Charl Schwartzel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭Corkblowin

I'd love to be able to swing the club like Fred Couples - followed him & Sergio around Mount Juliet during the WGC & it was mesmerising how relaxed he was ( Sergio was awesome too, but I'd break a wrist with that much lag).

However for me it had to be Luke Donald. Watching the recent Hilton Head tournament on the Sunday night I got a call & muted the TV. Watching him swing without the commentary or sound was amazing as I couldn't tell what club he was using by the swing as the rhythm & tempo were identical from 3 iron to wedge.

Trying to implement it at the moment - I'm blaming the constant wind for the lack of progress!! :)

Add Ernie Els in their and your right on line with what I would say. I would note that your selections are all extreemly technically sound. I see a lot of people mentioning Freddie Couples here and I must say that i really like his swing but looking at it from a technical point of view it is not exactly brilliant. He makes it work though and that the most important thing.

It's funny though it obviously not just about knowing how to execute a perfect swing, more so about knowing how to execute the swing you have.

Love watching Bubba's power slice off the deck with the driver, exactly how I do it off the box, only difference being he usually finds his.

Westwood has a swing I always try to pick bits out of,Els for the perfect tempo and rhythm but for pure class I'd say McIlroy.

 It all looks in-sync to me...

For me it's either McIlroy for how easy he generates speed while keeping his balance or Francesco Molanari whose swing is so simple, so in balance and how he appears so in control of his movements..............a thing of beauty!!!!!!

    Interesting thread.

One swing to watch on the European Tour is Scott Jamieson.

Saw him post a few nice scores in the last few weeks and he seems to be a very impressive player. His swing looks balanced and classy.

    Definitely one for the future.

One of the greatest ever ball-strikers, very long hitter, Slammin' Sam was competitive on the US tour right into his 60's. He has 82 PGA Tour wins. When he was 67 he shot a 67 in a tournament, before shooting a 66 on the final day, one lower than his age!!!
One of the best ever drivers and long iron players in golf

Thanks mr.mickels that second video was awesome. Unreal footwork. I really seems to me modern swings are not as graceful as the swings of the past greats....

    The great Ben Hogan's too.

It's almost as if every shot was a stinger back then. And you probably could not play golf unless you had a ton of lag. I bet the equipment of the day had a big influence on the swings.

Now days you see people playing long with a ton of lad or controlled with some but not as much. I reckon if you gave both Hogan and Snead an R9 and a V1 they would be going 300 yards effortlessly and controlled.

Snead was known as a 300yarder back in his day with the old equipment, he was a very long hitter, Hogan was powerful too, don't think he was as long as Snead, shorter in height too of course
