    (Long post, so sorry)
Hi everybody. I just found out about this site from a girl in Whelans and she promised that if anybody can answer my question, ye can 8-) I really hope you can help. Getting married in 5 months and am dreading it. I've put on a stone and a bit after i broke my femur in a car crash 8 months ago. here is my question.

I worked in LA in 2007 and read a story in one of the Hollywood rags and there was an interview with a man from Dublin that advised lots of big stars on shapewear. Apparently this fella can make a string of sausages look like a cucumber. He made corsets for Barbara Streisand and Liza Minelli and Jennifer Lopez and from the pictures this guy worked wonders. But here's the kicker... The article was all about how he was giving it up because he is moving back to Dublin and will stop making corsets and go back to college to study accounting or something. It turned out that he was a crossdresser or transvestite or something and was not 'out' in Ireland so couldn't continue with his craft.

now, I have looked high and low, even wrote emails to all of the hollywood rags but lots of them are closed down now, but I cannot find the article anywhere. i absolutely NEED this guy because the only way i can fit in to my dress is to have it altered drastically and it will ruin it :( I'm desperate and I really hope somebody else maybe saw the article or knows of this guy. He may even work in showbiz in Ireland, i don't know. All I know is he was very well known on the Hollywood scene as a miracle worker for the stars.

If I was fully fit I know I could shift the stone in weight easily enough in 5 months but I'm nowhere near capable of exercise. it was a horrid crash bbut thankfully i'm well on the mend and should at least be able to walk down the aisle without crutches 8-) Thank you very much for reading and I really hope you can help.
Edit: God, i just realized, if anybody does know his name, Please don't post it here. Just if anybody knows of him I guess and he is still working at that could they ask if it was ok to contact him. Oh god, this is fruitless isn't it? What are my chances.. The more I think of it, what are the chances anybody knows him? Slim 8-( Fingers crossed.. Bit drunk and teary eyed... sorry for rambling *hic*

Hmm interesting. I have no info I'm afraid and my google search has proved fruitless as I see yours has..

You may have luck in the Burlesque and Caberet forum as well...

    Hope someone can help...

You could also make enquiries in the drag community. Some of them (like Panti for example) are very professional in their approach and the dresses look like they spend a few bob.

Panti/Rory might know the person you mean.

OP I know you are desperately seeking this one person, but I would suggest you also start searching for alternatives, just in case.
There are plenty of online sites where you can order custom made corsets that will suit your measurements, but I would be inclined to suggest you take yourself & your dress to a specialist and see what they can do.

There is a place in Dun Laoghaire I'll drop you a pm!

thank you all very much for the suggestions! Great idea with enquiring to the drag community.. Jesus, i'm not very bright. I never thought of that at all.. Morri, you're a star! That website was a brilliant starting point. The lady who works there sounded lovely and from what I've been reading about the place, she knows her stuff. she will definitely be an alternative if my search proves fruitless. I also have an aunt who said that she would try her hand at altering an off the shelf corset if need be so my options are opening up 8-)

thank you all very much again.. If I have any luck finding this elusive genius I'll report back 8-) I feel much better now about the whole thing ..

Have only just seen this thread. How do I miss stuff like this? :o

Would the corsetier you are thinking of be Mr. Pearl? Magnificent creations but likely to cost you an arm and a leg and two or three houses.
    Meanwhile, two suggestions:
First there is Intimate Lingerie, Tara Street. They will custom make corsets for you.
Second is to try Honeytrap in DunLaoghaire.
Both of the above are a bit on the pricey side.

Edit: Ooops, I see Morrigan has already pointed you to Honeytrap. One of my favouritest ever places to get dragged to by the missus. :)

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and the name of Mr. Pearl. He was mentioned in the article as a 'competitor' by the person that was interviewing my mystery corsetier to which the reply was something along the lines of "Mr. Pearl gets all the press while I get the anonymity that I want" or something like that.. He didn't want anybody back home to get wind of what he was 'famous' for.. Guessing maybe because of his cross dressing and people would put 2 and 2 together. Weird to see somebody walk away from what sounded like a very very promising career.. Anyways, i may have a lead on the guy i'm after.. Fingers crossed that A. he replies to me and B. the he still works in this line.. Thanks so much again for all the help. This site is brilliant! I thought boards.ie was just about techy stuff.. you guys are amazing! Thanks again.
