Go outside and have a look to the North, at this time of year you can still see light from the Sun in the sky anywhere in Ireland.

I'd say it must be horribly dark in the winter. :(
So long as it wasn't bright bright, like sun shining etc, more of a twilight, I'd like it. I'd have my curtains shut at night and I'm sure I'd adjust if I was there a while.

I'd feel lovely and safe walking around at night if it was bright!

If nothing else, at least it would keep the pesky vampires away.

Shetland wouldnt have perpetual 24 hours of daylight but close enough to it. Its a bit too far south for that.

I've been to the Faroe Islands in october last year. Didn't really seem that much different weather and daylight wise if I'm being honest at that time.

That's because the equinox is around september 22/23 when every part of the Earth, (with the exception of the actual N & S Poles where the Sun just circles the horizon), has days and nights of equal length.

I lived in Norway for a while and I always remember that in the place I lived in, the sky was a weird darkish blue for a lot of the night during the summer - not completely dark but more like late dusk.

    Quite a busy town - http://visit.shetland.org/lerwick-town-centre-webcam

Abit cloudy there today, but they have daylight to look foward to most of the day lol

Well looking at those webcams, it gets dark enough for cars to use their lights at night. So I'd have no problem getting a couple of hours kip.

I'm in Lerwick now, didn't get quite dark last night but still fairly dark.

sleeping isn't a problem just close the curtains. I suppose it would get less dark in the north isles which is where I'm going today

Now I'm wondering did anyone from boards see me on that webcam as I passed that spot a few times already

shetland islands is not far enough north to never get dark, you have to be above the arctic circle for that to happen, shetland is at the exact same latitude at bergen in norway and i have been to bergen in july and for sure it gets dark, sunset is shetland tonight is 10.26pm, by contrast its 9.58pm in belfast and 9.52pm in dublin tonight

you need to go as far north as tromso for it to not get dark in summer

This webcam in Strandhill in Sligo faces North, right now, at 23:50, theres still a glow in the sky. Keep it in Ireland, go to Sligo.

Tis fairly dark in Uyeasound tonight, but not so dark that you wouldn't be able to find your way outside without a flashlight. The thick layer of cloud is helping bring in the darkness

I've been watching the town center for about 10 minutes now, it's so entertaining! I wish there was audio!

The Shetland Islands are much further north than where i am in southern Norway and we get about 3 hours of twilight in the summer, then its bright again.
Heres what it is like right now. Will be daylight very soon.
