Was just doing revision for paper 2 and when I square a minus number the answer comes ups as a negative, eg. -2 squared = -4. Tried it with a different calculator but the same result. Both Casio calculators. Any ideas?

You have to put it in brackets

Happens to me too. Put the number in brackets (-2) and then square it. Works that way!

    BOMDAS

You may be typing it in wrong, but the calculator you're using is probably treating it as

    -(2^2)

which would give a result of -4.

Try typing it in with brackets as (-2)^2 which will give the correct answer
