Have any boardies had experience of using a TV production company for a cycle event? Is there any company you would recommend based on your experience dealing with one, even for an event unrelated to cycling?
What are they like to deal with?

I'm looking for one of these companies to produce an hour or a half hour of highlights from a cycle event.

End product must be suitable for public broadcast by a TV channel.

.........minds among the boardsies will be doing somersaults as to what event? I'll keep ye posted. Will have the basics of it tied down by the end of the month hopefully, ye'll be among the first to know.

let us know if you find one. I know a major irish annual, charity event raising almost 200,000 euro, national awards for charity fund raising, 400 cyclists, do you think the national broadcasters paid any attention ?

event is operating for years , yet no national coverage.

its the father ted syndrome national broadcasters not realising the value, realise the value when ITV takes notice. Look at the halfords ITV criterium coverage, simple, but effective.

maybe if we got jedward or dustin on a racer.......

I agree with you entirely michael 196, I've been involved in the organisation of 2 separate sportif events and unfortunately, it would be near on impossible to get highlights of a sportif televised as they are two a penny now. Even the top international events on the UCI calendar, we only get to see the last 70k or so. Cycling in general does not generate the viewing figures, which is the bottom line. This cycle event has a completely different format to a normal road race, stage race or time trial, hence I have the interest of a TV channel for now.

They are providing some advise in terms of what they are looking for, but getting the production company is my baby, not theirs.

There are some foreign production companies that specialise in sport such as cycling but I have a preference for keeping it Irish if I could.

I have a list of Irish Production Companys via Screen Producers Ireland, but it's very difficult to ascertain which one to pick - I obviously have a preference for keeping that element of the business in Ireland. They all list off programmes, documentaries, shows etc. that they've produced but cycling doesn't seem to be on their palmares.

Sponsorship revenue for the event is heavily dependent on getting this part right.

I'm only looking to know if anyone here knows of an Irish Production Company that would be up to the job.
Getting any production company is not an issue.
But the event will live or die by the end result presented to the TV channel.

A lot of smaller events would give the footage for free to TV channels or even pay to have it broadcast.

I would be astonished if you find any production company that has a single cycling event in their portfolio - so my suggestion is to think of the kind of footage you want then think what kind of company can do this - cycling can only be effectively shot from cameras either on motor bikes or in some vehicle moving with the cyclists (assuming you want action shots). Have you considered tracking down the guys who did the Rás? They were using a number of cameras and (I think) had 3 motor bikes. By the way the experience of the motor bike rider is almost as important here. Dermot Dignam, Rás organiser, might be worth talking to. PM me if you need his email address.

Sent you a PM with the contact details for the producer who has been involved with both the RAS and Dublin marathon for a number of years as well as numberous sports programmes for Setanta. Good luck with it.

Never done a cycling event as far as I know, but a really nice short piece including my old business Velocity Couriers for Capital D on RTE. Nicely shot, got a lot of good moving shot as well out the back of their van.

Think you should be able to see it here:

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, thought I'd post anyhow. Best of luck!
