Are you fella's joking? It's "Common Level"! I always (and so does everyone in my class) view it as the easiest A you can get.

My project wasn't too good though, thanks to some idiot teacher replacing my old one. She has no idea what we were meant to be doing....

How can anyone be worried about CSPE? It's the easiest test going! A guaranteed A if you watch the news once a week or so...

    Apart from a fundraiser, I think that's it. I'm viewing CSPE as a glorified nap-time :p

Presuming you can read the paper in the first place. Not everyone can.

Once a year or so more like it. You can guess things fairly easily anyway with the pictures. A shame, I could have put my political knowledge to use.

OK, stop the sneering attitude to people who may have trouble with some subjects (not just CSPE).

It makes YOU look pretty stupid, not to mention what it tells us all (and the eternal internet archive) about your upbringing.

Sorry... Didn't mean to sound like a complete asshole. I'm failing maths and CSPE is one of the few subjects I can guarantee doing well in.

    apologies again

Thanks. Your post coincided with some charmers who decided to slag off people in the Maths thread. I'm aware most of the people who post here are literate, probably doing mostly honours at JC, but that is not the entirety of the JC cohort.

It would be great if those doing Foundation English, Maths or Irish could post and get support here, but just watch what happens if anyone even mentions it. It's a pet peeve of mine.

ANYWAY - thanks again for the apology and game on once more. The great thing with CSPE is that if your teacher has the project/course work diary thing sorted you can do really well. If the teacher hasn't got a handle on it yet, then the 60% for non-exam assessment becomes a millstone.

Nope, I was joking. Btw i probably shouldn't have made that joke, I 'm sure there are people who actually have a problem with CSPE but I thought it was funnier than the other ones ;)

Not to sound like a mod or anything, but can you stop trolling about this now? Or at least put a simple "/s" to indicate your sarcastic tone?

Makes it difficult to filter the people who ARE actually having difficulty, though I must admit that I usually find the tests exceptionally easy. Those who have any grasp upon Irelands current affairs etc. are bound to do decently on the theory.

However, I am feeling worried about my project. My fill-in teacher whom we had for 6 months was blatantly fresh out of college, and had no idea how to handle a class of 30 students. So, she let us do whatever we want, with little to no guidance on the project section. We did have some talk a good while back with an ex prison-governer, but the quality of my writing wasn't too impressive (the language itself, not presentation as such). Don't tenses get marked? I know that seems strange, but I wrote the majority of it in past tense, whereas a lot had to be future tense etc.

Hopefully the marking guidelines aren't too strict. Spurious, do you teach CSPE?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 80 ✭✭innovation.

I have the worst teacher for CSPE, ever. He can NOT control a class at all. No work was ever done in his classes. We all had to take time out from other subjects to make sure we had our action projects completed. I question how he even passed his LC to become a teacher, no exaggeration. He talks to you like you're a two-year old too which is annoying. :(

I wouldn't really take CSPE as a guaranteed A. I know from doing the JC last year and the results from people in my year and others that it took them by surprise wheo they got a B. So I'd say it deserves it's own proper attention even if it's not as technicaly difficult as other subjects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭robman60

Everyone takes it as a guaranteed A, but only around 25% of people actually get it.

    Yes.
If I recall correctly, there's a maximum number of As that an examiner can hand out. At least, that's how I think it goes. Point is, if you look at the stats, most people won't get an A in CSPE. You're far more likely not to.

youre all so sarcastic :p i actually may genuinely do bad in cspe...proof .. i couldnt remember who the taoiseach was a few days ago:pac:

i hope my action project is ok :/ i didnt really know what a high standard one would be about :/
my teacher this year was NEVER in, shes gone back to college to do some teacher course thing, and shes only in once a month, for the one cspe class we have a week... we never got a replacement either, so each week we just had another teacher come in and tell us to revise, and when we asked if we could work on our action project, they wouldnt let us :/
then our teacher came back for a full day, and she took us out of all our classes for the day and we blitz it, we came up with an idea, (to give a speech and presentation to the school on child soldiers), we split into groups, carried the plan out, and wrote it all out, in one day :/
but, however, i think mine sounded ok, i filled in every line with writing,(and i have tiny writing) so, fingers crossed :L

I got a A in my pre for my cspe when i did my junior cert two years ago and then in the actual junior cert I dropped down to a C. Its actually not that easy to get a A anymore for such a easy subject because there were to many people getting A's.

We have a teacher who reminds us of the scene in Father Ted where Ted asks Dougal if he collected 10 crisp packets to become a priest. She is that stupid! She teaches us CSPE, Geography, RE and teaches half the class English. The best way I can think of to describe her brainpower and lack thereof is one of many incidents in RE.

Student: How do you aisle like in a church?
    Teacher: O-I-L
Student: I dont think thats right
Teacher: Of course it is, how else would you spell it?
    3 other students: A-I-L-S-E
And then she loses the head.

In fairness, oil does play a rather large role in the sacraments in a church.

Contrary to what you say, 25% (if you are in any way near the actual figure) is a lot higher than in other subjects.

Considering it's Common Level, I'd only assume that those who are doing mojority- Higher Level papers would be more likely to get an A, particularly those who do well in English (as quite a lot of the CSPE paper needs you to be good at explaining points or ideas)

    Good luck to everyone!

I'm actually not looking forward to this. I don't feel 100% confident that I will get an A. I mean, I think my project is good enough... I just don't know really.

    Hopefully I will though.

Do you guys really care if you get an A or not in CSPE? I mean it's nothing to really brag about in all fairness. :pac: I'm going to obviously try on the paper, but not really bothered or not if I get an A in this paper as it's so easy. :)

I only got 65% in my CSPE mock - only because I know nothing about most of the stuff in Section 1 :o

I guess, to me anyway, being proud of your A in CSPE isn't as good as devoting your time to, say, Science and getting a B in that :D

They adjust the marking scheme to suit the bell curve; they expect the same amount of As and Bs every year. I mean, if you got 100%, you'll definitely get an A, but still.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 Louise6

I'm hoping for an A in this, but i don't know any of the politicians and political parties and i answer almost every question with "our class could make a poster"... :/

The figures are on the examinations website if you'd like to verify the figures given. I don't remember ever saying that it wasn't a higher percentage than other subjects, many other subjects are ~10% getting an A.

The fact that it is a common level paper skews the A grades.
