Given a choice, I'm interested in whether people prefer a large, long hill at the start of a spin (in the first 5-10km) or at the end. Let's keep it realistic, and say around 3% grade and 5km. I can't decide whether I'd prefer to go up a hill like that when I'm fresh but still warming up, or at the end when I'm coasting but knacked.

When's the best time for a hill? 12 votes

I hate hitting hills too early so it'd be towards the end of a spin for me.

I find that an early hill (or sprint) makes the whole session better, gets the HR up early and it stays there. Slow starts and I never really get started...

I like a good hill at the start and another at the end. Actually I would be happiest if all of the ride was uphill!

I'm a disaster on the hills! but would prefer to encounter one early in the spin rather than when I'm wrecked near the end.

Would rather the end of the ride, if I hit it too early and feel too good il usually burn myself out too early and legs would end be bait half an hour later! No good

Early on! Love short and steep hills in the first 20 minutes

I prefer the hill to be at the end, I usually blast up them as opposed to wearing myself out at the start.

That said, I only really encounter one hill, on the outer ring road going up to the Naas Road overpass, pretty long. There's small inclines over the canal and train tracks too.

wouldn't quite go that far, but a decent amount of spaced hills is good.

A hill or two in the middle works well!

How about this ride. Hills at the start, hills in the middle and hills at the end.

That looks like a nice ride - except for those pesky descents. Down with that sort of thing
