What is the difference between Silencers with Foam and Silencers with no Foam?

I only have experience with silencers with foam but I think that they change the sound of an AEG differently. With foam rings you can take some out and experiment with different spacing of them inside the silencer in order to make your AEG sound different. Apparently irregular intervals have a greater effect on sound but I haven't been able to test this.

Like I said, I don't have any experience with silencers which don't use foam but that's what I know about foam versions.

Suppressors without foam are designed for the strictly controlled US market, those with foam/acoustic wadding are for everywhere else.

Suppressors with foam/wadding reduce the high end sound produced by the gearbox. Those without such material do nothing at all, if anything they amplify that same high end sound.
