The article using 3 year old figures as the reference point is odd, anyway the "stars" will still of far better paid than anyone on any other broadcaster.

A 30% cut still wouldn't be enough. Who exactly will these 'stars' run to if they feel their wages are inadequate.

Maybe we should send them food parcels!

I read recently that 55% of RTE's income is from advertising - so the paycut should be 45% across the board - not one penny from public funds should be used for wages then the moaning and griping (justified) will stop.

Not very impressive at first glance. Even less impressive when you read the details.
The 30pc reduction includes voluntary pay cuts of 10pc taken by staff in 2009.
    ...
The savings are set to be largely -- if not completely -- eliminated if RTE begins paying increments to 600 directly employed staff in a few weeks, as it is expected to do. The increments are worth €800,000.

There should not be a single RTE presenter earning more than €150k or €200k per year.

Its not like they are saving lives or anything. They are simply chatting on the radio or presenting a TV show, which most of the highly paid 'stars' could do in their sleep now.

If they don't like it, they should be told to look elsewhere for a job. You can guarantee none of them would leave Ireland. Who'd have them??

Tubridy has put a hole that arguement ... he's temporarily off to the BBC. When does that start?

The other thing is that if we are paying them this much they shouldn't have the option of working for other broadcasters at home or abroad.

Well thats always been one of RTE main arguments that they have to pay them so much so they don't get poached by the competition but who would want some of them? RTE are like a 1st Division Football team paying premier league wages. A salary cap would be the best course of action.

He's the exception to the rule, lets be honest.

You really think Joe Duffy and his aul nonsense would get a job anywhere else in the world? Come on.
